Viewing 3D Objects in Unlocked Courses...

Post by Danny D »

Hi all...

I found out something tonight that I didn't know for sure, and will pass this on to other designers so they understand what's happening. This has to do with trying to open other designers courses and getting that annoying pop-up message...

The problem here is that the APCD is looking for the files that make up both the 2001 and the 2003 objects libraries. Since there are so many better 3D objects available in the 2001 planting set, the designers would do the "library merge" and install the 2001 planting set. Most new designers haven't installed the 2001 library, therefore the APCD can't find the 2001 files, which triggers that pop-up that shows up on the desktop UNDER the APCD screen.

To solve that issue, all you need to do is install the 2001 Object Library. (A Library Merge) Then you will be able to see the 3D objects when you open other designers courses.

Hope that helps,

Dan

For anyone that may have missed it, I provided us with an easy method of using the 2001 Object Library that contains all of the really cool 3D houses. You won't have to do that "Library Merge" any longer. Now you can get the full APCD with a pre-installed 2001 and 2003 Object Library. All you have to do is download it, unzip it into a folder, and start using it. It's just that simple. Read the file description for details...

Enjoy,

Hi Danny,

I followed your detail instructions and after downloading and unzipping the file on both my main drive and a USB drive, I get the same results.

I'm using windows 10, and APCD in both instances load with APCD default objects. I have the windows virtual store disabled but APCD still thinks it's a new install without any 2001 3D or or regular 2D objects.

What do you think is happening....?????

You can view the files in that zip file, just like you are browsing a regular folder. Double-click on it, browse to the OBJECT folder, and look at the files inside. Are these the ones that you see?

You should also see these in your newly created copy.

Do I understand you to be saying that when you start the new APCD and open the planting set, that you don't see the 2001 objects in it at all? But you do see the 2003 objects?

I'm a little confused about what your looking at when you say they're not there...

Have you ever had the 2001 objects installed on any of your APCD'S?

Lemmi know...

Are you looking inside the object library? Because you still have to put them into a planting set before being able to see them in the planting tab (remember to click 3D instead of 2D to see them within the object library)

Hi Danny,

I can see everything as you show it above.

I was talking about being in APCD and not seeing what you show above.......

Before you can use the new 2001 objects, you must first add them to your planting set. When you install the APCD, it gives you the 2003 Object Library as a planting set by default. No need to add them. However, when you install the 2001 Object Library, they are not automatically added to your default planting set. You must pick and choose only the ones you want in your planting set, and add them yourself.

Open the APCD, and then open your OBJECT LIBRARY.

Once the Object Library is opened, if the OBJECT tab is selected, you will have an empty box. There are two tabs to choose from at the top. One tab for OBJECTS and the other for PLANTING SET. Each tab will have menu icons that you can use to SAVE, SAVE AS, CREATE NEW, DELETE and so on.

THE OBJECTS TAB
This is NOT part of your planting set. This is simply a library of 2D and 3D objects that you can use to build your planting set. It contains 2D and 3D objects that were designed for Links 2003. After the 2001 Object Library has been merged, this is where you'll find the files. You must now add them to your planting set. Remember, none of these are part of your actual planting set until you open the drop down list, select them, and then press the "Add to Planting Set" button.

Pay attention to the little radio buttons at top right corner for 2D and 3D Objects. When you select 3D objects from the drop-down list, you won't be able to see them in the window unless the "3D OBJECTS" radio button is selected.

THE PLANTING SET TAB
Look at the file name at the top center of the box. It should say "Default.pst
This is the objects that are actually in your planting set by default. Object MUST reside in this area to be available for planting on your course. You add these by choosing objects from the OBJECT LIBRARY drop-down list, and then highlighting the ones you want for your planting set, and pressing the "Add to Planting Set" button...

You can add all of the 3D objects to your planting set, but we've been warned not to use some of the 2001 2D objects because they might be corrupt.

Here's Lez Marwick video on how to add files to your planting set...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dogE6rmP_M

A note on my feelings about that. I have a feeling some of them may have been getting corrupted by designers importing them from other designers courses. That may have tricked some people into thinking they were corrupt in the new planting set. I think they might still be ok, if you add them to your planting set properly, without importing them from a course. Just my suspicion. I used some of the flowers and saw no problems with them.
If you want to convince me that some of the 2001 objects are corrupt, as my state motto says, "I'm from Missouri - Show Me"

Let me know how it goes...

Dan

I dont think it was necessarily that they were corrupted in the classical way that objects get corrupted, but moreso that they (only certain ones) made APCD unstable/slow/laggy. I think thats what Lez said anyway
