Not ANOTHER chain link fence question?

Post by Colin Jones »

Yes, it is!

I am working on a standard installed version of the APCD (and not the version with a copy of the 2001 Objects Library). For all the information already in this Forum, I still can't understand how to get the chain link fence imported into my planting set.

Hope someone can help make this easy for me please.

Good question,
I have never been able to import a 3D object like a 2D object.

Colin,
I believe Linkster has looked into importing 3D objects, see https://linkscorner.org/phpBB/viewtopic ... ort#p21164
Unfortunately it looks way above my skill set.
Good luck.

Thanks alot for responding guys.

I've used the chain link fence before. Its not an external object and its already in the 2001 APCD 3D Object Library. So I think you might need to use the Library Merge tool (or something like that) to get it into 2003.

Adelade will know, Linkster will know.......

Hmm...

There is a LibraryMerge tool in Links, which I think is supposed to merge the 2001 objects into the 2003 library, but I dont know the details of how it works, because I never got the merging process to work on my computer. Im pretty sure it worked for others though, so you could try it. I dont know whether it works on an existing 2003 library that includes custom objects, but you could always try (make backups to be safe!). Pretty sure Lez had a video about the merger, probably worth checking out beforehand.

I always use a different APCD main folder for each different course I work on, but each of them originate from one of two distinctly different types of base APCD folders. 1: a basic APCD with the 2001 objects included, but no custom added objects (this is an APCD that Dan used the librarymerge on, and uploaded at my request, since I couldnt get the library merge to work on my end), and 2: my standard APCD with all my custom objects, but none of the stock 2001 objects.

I struggle to remember the exact details of how I did it when I wanted some of the stock 2001 3D objects on my courses, I only have a somewhat clear memory of how I did it on my first course Amedal, where I wanted some of the basic 2001 3D bridges and perhaps the 3D fences were from the 2001 library too. What I did was to finish my course with my standard custom library APCD in all other aspects, and only then open it with the 2001 APCD, and added the 2001 3D objects as the very last thing before making the final save. Perhaps this could work for you too?

You can find Dan's 2001 object APCD download here: https://linkscorner.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=348
Main Courses made: Amedal (fict), Nine Bridges (real)
Other: Austin, Sheshan, Kauri Cliffs, Le Golf, Shadow Creek Updates: Whirlpool, Royal Lytham, Royal St George's, Chicago, Chambers Bay, Munchen Nord E
Working on: 2 fict courses + some things...

Still can't make it work tho!
It's something I can do without I guess.

Sorry, I just noticed this question. Which 2001 stock fence are you looking to use?

If you have all 4 files necessary for a 3d object (.cmf, .map, .prv, .XYZ), they can be added to your planting library through the same way a 2d object is. Instead of looking for a .tga file to import, start typing in the file name. Select the corresponding .XYZ file of the object you want. The same object import window will come up, except it is a 3d object.

If you want to edit the fence I can help with that but textures seem to be limited to 256 x 256 in Links 2003. The APCD can support much higher resolutions.

Thanks, that works! The trick is to commence typing "3D" otherwise the folder will seem to be empty.
