A blast from the past

Post by sodbuster »

Hello All!
Sodbuster here. I used to be pretty active in the old forum back in the day. I released a couple of courses back then too. My first was Hop Farm and that was followed by Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis. I also worked with the Dark Horse Design team on a couple of courses. Anywho, long story short, I started another real course in 2007 and worked on and off with it for about 3 years. The course is The Links at Teton Peaks, a small, quirky, fun course just outside of Driggs, Idaho. For various reasons I drifted away from designing and lost interest. I recently found the files and loaded it up in the APCD but realized I've forgotten more than I ever even knew about using that powerful but frustrating course designer. The course is playable but needs lots of refinements and tidying up done. I'd be glad to let one of you current designers pick up where I left off. Lemme know!

Welcome back!

I remember you and your courses. I thought Hop Farm went as far back as Links 2001 and so I checked and yep, you been around quite a while.
Hopefully someone picks up your course. For those of us still playing, the Links series is as strong as ever and new courses are appreciated.

Being from Dark Horse, you would've likely known Rehit (Mick Prendergast) well. Sorry to inform you but feel you would like to know, Rehit passed away not long ago.

Nice to see :cheers1: I like Jackson and tend to put one round there in my seasons, I've felt like its an underestimated release (well it looks like it got good 'user ratings' at least). Havent played Hop Farm but I'll add it to my (very long) list of courses to get around to, looks quite playable first glance.

Looked briefly at Teton Peaks, looks like an interesting layout for sure but perhaps a bit short (cant tell too well)? I think it would be hard for me to bump down my many other planned projects in favor of a short course since Im more of a tournament course fan but I shouldnt say Im fully opposed to doing it someday down the line. What parts are missing in the design? Of course I would be very happy if someone else did it rather, are you sure you dont want to get back into it yourself? ;) Would love to see it finished and play it, dont think Ive seen any real course for Links from Idaho either.

Welcome back

Still Linksing, I knew Rehit well but have been long out of touch. Still use his Hazard Golf MOP. Sad to hear.

Adelade, It is a short course with a very funky layout. Two par 3's in a row, two par 5's in a row. It still needs some planting, blending, pin setting. 3D buildings need to be improved (dark shadows). :dunno:

Nice looking course sodbuster. Why not post it as a beta and let the current designers (as well as us non-designers) have a look see?

Looks wonderful :clapping:

Unless you'd require me to do it based off anything but my own judgment, I'd love to set the pins now right away. Im not sure exactly what the planting or seam blending parts entail, or the extent of them and the 3d work (feel free to PM me), but unless they're extremely quick I wouldnt want to delay my other projects in favour of it for now. In 6-18 months I would probably be up for it. Again, I would need to know details before saying for sure and hope someone else can do it instead, the course looks like it deserves it

The shadows are easy to remove from the 3D buildings. Check my tutorial on Building a 3D house

The last 3 chapters cover shadow removal.
