Banff Redux & Tunnel Mountain

Post by Colin Jones »

I'm about to upload the additional 9 holes at Banff Springs, known as the Tunnel 9. They will form the back 9 of what is called the Tunnel Mountain course.

The Banff course has been completed upgraded, including being completely replanted from scratch. It features:
- new quality pine trees (80% of which haven't been seen in Links previously);
- new high-quality textures;
- all other existing 2D and 3D objects have been improved and many new objects added.

A new sound file now features only authentic Banff sounds - birds, elk, other wildlife, etc. Even the river you hear in the background is actually the Bow River.

This means I will also be releasing the upgraded version of the Thompson 18 at the same time. It's just so superior to the previous version that its worth doing it.

Other stuff:
- Protip file will be available for Thompson 18 file (thanks ChuckH)
- alternate green is accessible for 4th hole (select pin 12)

Colin-it's magnificent I love playing the dogleg and seeing the hotel. The clubhouse is beautiful...don't forget the bears and moose-they show up from time to time-seriously! :smile:

Just wondering-there was a place in APCD where you could put the "Hole Name" (like they have at Augusta). Both the "Regular" course and "Tunnel Mountain" have "names" for each hole. Thompson usually did that with his courses.

If you ever want to work on Banff's sister course at Jasper I'd be glad to review (note-I didn't say nitpick :laugh: ). It managed to survive the fire relatively unscathed but doing the original would probably be the best bet...if you're interested... :whistle:

The Stanley Thompson courses are generally too short for a tour event with a couple of exceptions (maybe LPGA) but they were built in a time when one could take advantage of the natural settings outside Canada's major urban areas...again with a couple of exceptions.

I'm thrilled that there are several in the Links "bank" now...I feels the same as when Jeopardy has an "answer" about Canada!

I'm trying to get my hands around Capilano (his course in North Vancouver)...but I'm easily frustrated. :wallbash:

It's hard to believe that you're an Aussie...there must be some Canuck blood somewhere.

Thanks.

Hey Jimbo, thanks mate. Re: hole names - all of them are entered as Course Properties for each hole. But then they just don't appear anywhere in the game!

In Banff, each of the 27 tees has a sign that displays it - you just might have to rotate on some holes to see the sign. One of those minor dilemmas for designers of real courses - do I place it where the Links player will see it? Or do I place it where it actually is located on the course? I tend to favour the IRL option, although sometimes I just can't help myself. (Admittedly tho , you'd be hardpressed making out the hole name from any sort of distance from the sign anyway)

There are hole names for this course in the game. They are on the hole previews. Don't know about the tunnel course yet.

Of course, that's right, the names are also on the Hole Previews too. I added them in to each of the previews for the Tunnel 9 holes.

Wow this looks absolutely incredible. Thanks for producing this! I was in Banff in September and it looks like you have truly captured it. I have been debating whether to go up and play the Tunnel 9 (which would require me renting a car or staying a night) so I am looking forward to checking it out on here first.
