APCD crashing

Post by sagevanni »

I'm almost ready to call it quits. I hate losing work I meticulously do due to APCD crashing. I sometimes get so into doing stuff I forget to save and make a backup of the work I'm doing. I can do 5-10 saves with no problem and forget to make a backup and them BAM, APCD crashes on me. I lose 20 minutes worth of detailed work. I'm sick of it. :wallbash:

Sage,

Been there, felt like that :wallbash: . Take a deep breath and a valium, and maybe even a drink or two (or three). Hang in there

When I'm writing code or making documentation if I lose even a few minutes of work due to a crash, I HATE that. At some point in the distant past I became so paranoid about losing work and being forced to remember stuff that came out of a stream of thought rather than pre-planning, I hit SAVE often and it just became habit, I hardly think about it now. All I can say is to try and make it sheer habit to save regularly. None of us want you quitting. You know the pleasure you get out of making these courses overrides these temporary pain points. :) We love the ones you make too, so there's that. :)

Hardware, or software? Maybe your system needs the fans cleaned? Just a couple of random thoughts.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I agree 99%, I’d go with a drink or two, or whatever is needed. :cheers1:

Restarting APCD manually now and then will help too, especially when doing tasks that tend to cause crashes more frequently than others (turning edges, planting or manipulating 2D, and planting people are the main ones I can think of, from my own experience). In many ways, APCD's likelihood to crash builds up over time due to memory leak.
Finished Courses - Main: Amedal (fictional), Nine Bridges (real)
Other: Austin, Sheshan, Kauri Cliffs, Le Golf Nat. Updates: Whirlpool, Royal Lytham, Royal St George's, Chicago, Chambers Bay, Munchen Nord E
Working on: 2 fictional courses + a couple things...

When I takes longer to go from screen to screen, and validations start taking a little longer, I get completely out, reboot, and go back in. It still catches me sometimes though.

I am certain of only 2 things from the 22,489 posts in this forum:

1. The APCD may crash; and

2. It can be mildly frustrating when it does.
Completed: Golf Club of Houston (Redstone); Banff Springs 2025 (Thompson 18 and Tunnel Mountain); Mauna Kea 2024; Royal Sydney Golf Club.
Working on another Sydney course with an eye across the ditch too.
