APCD 1.5 With 2001 objects

Post by Weeler »

Hey Guys !

I'm not exactly sure WHY I'm having such a problem with getting the file that Danny D. put together combining the APCD 2003 and 2001 object files to download correctly and work for me. Twice, it has told me that when I try to "unzip" it, that it can't complete it because some files are corrupt. I downloaded it 3 times, to no avail. ( Like Freud's definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results ! ) Bottom line is: I would be forever grateful if someone would tell me how, OR send me a copy of the completely MERGED 2001-2003 object files for the APCD. From looking at and using the older APCD 2001 some time back, I remember that it had some VERY nice trees and plants that are simply NOT in the 2003 version. Such as some willows or small "colorful" trees, etc. I would like to have the best object library that I possibly can draw from to help with any up coming planting projects. And I'll be honest, I'm a computer file "klutz". Nothing ever seems to upload, download or work as easily and simply as the instructions indicate. I either get error messages, or the programs don't work like they're supposed to. ( I sure hope I'm not the only one who runs into this issue ).

I sure as heck don't consider myself "computer savvy", but I'm also not a complete "novice". So, I'd appreciate whatever you can tell me about getting a combined object file running under the same "APCD 1.5 " program. Everything in LINKS and the APCD seems to take WAY too many steps to find where it's supposed to reside. I'd pay real $$ for someone to send me their FULL comined object file to swap the basic 2003 one I'm currently using. Please tell me where i'm going wrong !!

Thanks , Ron "Weeler" Weel :helpsmilie:

I can send you a copy if it comes to that - np. The 1.5 version of the APCD comes in a folder and I believe you can just take the folder out of the zipped file and drop it on your c:/ drive in a folder.. The problem comes if you try to do the "Extract to:" zip function - which you don't need to do. Whenever I start working on a new course, I simply copy and paste that "APCD (stk 2k1+2k3 Objs)" folder wherever I want it to go. It doesn't have to do any special unpacking. It's like copying one file from one place to another, only it's a bunch of folders and files. (see pic) [of course, run the APCD.exe as an Administrator]

Thanks, PM. I'll let you know if I need the download. Working on it slowly.....but I think my PC has some registry problems associated with both Links and APCD files. As you're well aware.....computers can be a royal pain !!

Ok. I started to suggest something that might have helped but I don't know your level of experience with computers and Windows.

Hold down the keyboard key that looks like a flying 4-paned window and hit "E" at the same time, (Windows Explorer will open),

then find "Local Disk (C)" around midway on the left side.

Next right-mouseclick on "Local Disk (C)",
look down in the click's menu and select "New" and then "Folder", and
give the new folder the name "Hold APCD Files" and then hit enter. You now have the location you need.

Now simply right-click-copy your downloaded folder named "APCD (stock 2001+2003 Objects)" and right-click-paste it on your "Hold APCD Files" folder. Or you can open your downloaded .ZIP and select all files inside (select 1 file and then CNTL (Key) + A (Key)), click and drag all files to the "Hold APCD Files" folder and drop them on it. (Don't use "Extract")

Ron, I did this stuff for 38 years and coached any number of people with various skill-sets in how to do it. Please let me help so we can get you up and working.
