I think you may have misinterpreted what I said, I think betas are very useful, I just personally prefer to test things out when they are intended to be finished, rather than me perhaps studying certain details and writing up feedback about it, and then later it turns out the designer was planning on changing those anyway - that is just a waste of time. Ideally, testers can be made aware of which details are still planned to be worked on or not so they dont have to make guesses. Sometimes it is obvious that something is not done, but sometimes not. In this case with the previous beta, I immediately saw a couple things that were obviously not finished and since that likely meant there were other things that were still in progress, I didnt want to make guesses about which and instead saved my time and energy for something else. I have nothing against work-in-progress test versions, they can be very useful too, I just think my efforts, personally and in general, are more effective on betas that are closer to finished.
