Yesterday I played my practice round and could not get anywhere near comfortable, so I decided to leave my round until today.
Today I spent an hour practicing and I was optimistic of a better 2nd round. Fast forward 9 holes and being +7, I decided that I truly am a fair weather Links golfer, and I have more pleasurable ways to spend my hours. I aplogise to Thomas and my fellow players, but I am withdrawing.

I cross my fingers that Cromwell, CT will have clement weather next week.

Good luck guys.

Third round 72. The luck of the first two rounds left me (well, except for a pitch-in for par on 11 after the first effort rolled back to me.) Two birdies, three bogeys on front, one birdie and two bogeys on back. Didn't notice I had a plugged lie in the greenside bunker on 8 and BLASTED the shot. With a strong "helping" wind on the 17th, hit 6 iron instead of 8. As I age, I become more inattentive.

A 74 today.

My hacker status is intact.

It is proving to be a hard slog and not enjoyable, it has gone way past being a "challenge".

I am thinking of scaling the setting back one notch. Classic Links setting are too easy, so am thinking somewhere in the middle, staying on challenging setting but using something a bit lower on this setting scale.

No problem Ian. The courses and the pins will always be here. Nobody has to report anything. It's all about the love of golf and having fun

Second round in the books, knowing I needed a better round to make the cut I went out with trying to be strategic and see if I could stick around and play 2 more rounds. I went through the green at #2 for my first bogey, so frustrating to hit what seemed like a good shot and have it roll through the green and into the rough, another double bogey at #4, the only bright spot came at #5 with an 18 foot birdie and finished the front nine with a bogey at @9 to go out in 38, back nine started the same way, 3 putt bogey from 40 feet on #10, made a couple bogeys coming back in to finish in 42 for a 38-42=80 and another missed cut. Not much fun when your lowering your trajectory to try and punch through the wind and still can't reach the fairway.

Good luck gents!

That's pretty good Jim considering it's a brand new course. :bookh: In the immortal words of a Bruce Lee movie...you were "Better than some. Not as good as many" Here are some others that did not fair as well as you and they had to do it on TV. :tomato:

Thomas,

Thanks for organizing these tournaments for us to play along, and the time it takes to figure out the pins for each round. As I mentioned before on this board, I hadn't played Links in about 2 to 3 years, it was easier to play PGA2K21 on my XBox and I've enjoyed getting back to Links and playing some of these courses I haven't visited in so many years. I've kept up reading this board and have downloaded a lot of the newer that have come out since I was more actively playing Links.
