HELP! BACK FROM RETIREMNT

Post by brooks2345 »

Daft post really, but I have been away for a few years and have literally forgotten EVERYTHING to do with building golf courses! Have kept playing them (some are really good) but threw all the APCD paperwork out ages ago. Must be dementia or something. Anyway, thought I'd have a look at LINKS again and apart from a new computer which is a bit strange, all the programs (except LINKS2003 and Google Earth Pro) have been updated, so what I used to do no longer applies.

Anyway, can anyone please tell me how to get a saved screenshot of a golf course (has to be in .JPG format) from Google Earth into the APCD so I can then lay out an actual course (I'm looking at Corfu Golf Club)? Once I've done this, I can then soldier/struggle on!!

Cheers

Hi John,

I'm afraid I can't help you with your problem. I wish I knew something about APCD.

But I'm very happy to hear from you again, at ours age, you never know.
I always enjoyed playing your courses.

So welcome back. :cheers1:

Best regards,
Titus

Hi John,
Nice to see you back my Friend.
I used to take a screen shot from google earth. Scale it in "GIMP" to a maximum of 4096 x 4096 square image and save as a "*.TGA" file.
Then in APCD create a face named what you saved your image in GIMP ( or whatever program you use ) It has to be 32 bit image.
Highlight the whole course and click on your newly created texture and make the whole course that image.
Then I would get the length of one of the longest holes and shortest hole and scale up or down the whole course till it matches the length of those holes.
It takes a lot of playing around but it works. You will be able to get fairly close to the correct scale.

Any more questions just ask.......

Sage...... :cheers1:

Using GIMP is not something easily forgotten.

Back in the day I believe a lot of people used Paint Shop Pro.
