SCOTT LEWIN

Post by Jimbo »

With the US Open coming up I was looking for the latest version of Oakmont. I know that it's available on the Microsoft package but Scott was working on a new version and has a great looking Beta. INMHO it could be "finalized" but does anybody know if Scott is still part of our community?
It's been up there for, let's just say "a very long time" and still looks great.

Hi Jimbo,

Scott Lewin's beta is 16 years old and is not the current Oakmont. I had been working on a updated version of Oakmont with Gil Hanse's revision work which is about half way done with the new yardages, the greens returned to their original size and bunkers added/re-designed. Unfortunately my computer and the APCD will co-operate with each other and it became too frustrating to try and work on the course. I wanted this to be the best design I had ever produced (I have played Oakmont and spent time on the property) but I just cant deal with all of the issues involved with Win 11 and the APCD. I toyed with the idea of buying a refurb computer running win 7 but due to recent health issues and the cost of living, I put that off.

I do have that bug eating at me to get back into designing but it's going to be a little while before I get there.

I sent both an email and a private message here to him in 2021 about completing his Beta. He never returned to his login on this site to see the private message, and he probably doesnt use the email address anymore. The public Beta is locked, and even if he returned, who knows if he would still have any non-locked version of the course.
Main Courses made: Amedal (fict), Nine Bridges (real)
Other: Austin, Sheshan, Kauri Cliffs, Le Golf, Shadow Creek Updates: Whirlpool, Royal Lytham, Royal St George's, Chicago, Chambers Bay, Munchen Nord E
Working on: 2 fict courses + some things...

That 16 year old beta is still a lot of fun to play, especially with the hardest/fastest greens. :cheers1:

Knocking on wood, but so far so good with the APCD and an updated version of Oakmont is coming along very nicely.

Also I have a new version of Oak Hill from one of linksters DEM's that I should now be able to complete.

So two new releases should be coming sometime in Jull, early August.

Excellent news, fingers crossed.

I have tried the Oak Hill beta from 2024, it played pretty well, I did have some strange golfer reactions.

That beta was from an update of Sean Landry's original. And yes there were some odd issues I could never figure out, so linkster was kind enough to make an updated DEM for me. This version will be more accurate and without the problems that occurred in the first beta.
