Another reason to hate microsoft

Post by sagevanni »

This is another reason.......By doing this they are forcing a lot of people to buy a new win 11 comp to get a new windows release. Not nice. It's extortion.

My Windows 10 machines, or should I say former Windows 10 machines at 7 and 12 years of age have been converted to Linux and run faster than they ever did under Windows. It has given them a new lease on life.

I'm curious. Can you do a dual boot with Linux and Windows on the same PC? Thanks!

Hi,
I'm also interested in which Linux OS version do you use - there are so many of them?

I'm not exactly sure what dwg is using (Linux Mint, I think, maybe the standard version). I'm using Linux Mint Debian Edition 6. cf. the Linux thread in the Tech Forum. Rock solid.

I'm using the standard version of Linux Mint version 21.3, in my case with the MATE desktop environment.

I settled on this distribution after trying Fedora, Ubuntu and looking at some others. I do have Anticx on a really old system with an Atom processor. I have dabbled with Linux on and off for many years.

Mint is probably one of the better distros for Windows users, it generally feels 'familiar' and it has Long Term Support. I am also rather fortunate in that for many years most of the applications I use have a Linux version as well as a Windows version.

Yes my systems can dual boot, the Linux boot menu handles this easily. This was very easy in my case as I have two disks in each machine, Windows on one disk, Linux on the other. With one disk you would have to have two partitions on the one disk. Linux can mount Windows partitions/disks, but not the other way around.

I still occasionally boot Windows on the notebook which is a Gen7 i5 system.

Hello Anguis & dwg,

Thank you for not forgetting me.
I have problems playing the game with Win10 and Win11. The game only starts once for me, then it stops running or it somehow runs in the background, I hear the music but can't jump into the game. I've had these problems since Intel 12xxx. My old Intel i7 4790 still runs
Win10 without any problems.

I don't know how to do that yet.

My System Win11,
so install Mint on a separate hard drive - via a USB stick and then Mint sets up a boot manager for me?

or let's see, maybe I can get another PC together and just install Mint.

So thanks again for the information.

I have seen a problem where Links starts but all you get is a black screen with some lines on it and the music is playing. This seemed to be linked to the resolution that was set, specifically with a resolution of 1366 x 768 in my case. I found the only resolution that would work in the WXGA space was 1280 x 720. I encountered this problem on both Windows and Linux.
