Links working on Acer desktop with Intel UHD 730 graphics

Post by dwg »

It has been a long time since I visited links, although I have it running on an old XP mini tower.

I decided to try to get it working on an Acer 13th Gen i5 with the infamous integrated Intel video, in this case UHD 730 so I could retire the old system.

Links installed as you would imagine, this from the original boxed CD set. I did have to research setting the video mode after installing the 1.07 update, the memory did start to come back after this.

As many would expect the software at this stage was unusable, the graphics was shot, corrupted etc.

I used the graphics wrapper that is the subject of the sticky and the software now seems to work as well as ever, perhaps better with the newer hardware. Thank you to those that developed and found this solution.

I have screen resolution of 1920x1200, it looks good.

The only problem I have seen so far, and it is early days, is that I getting a message asking if LinksLauncher.exe is allowed to make changes to the device.

I think I will try also having it on my Asus notebook - I do have two copies of Links, the Microsoft boxed version and a copy published by Ubisoft, both purchased many years ago.

I did have an account on the old forum, got a laugh when I set up an account here and it asked who was the original creator, seems it wanted Microsoft and I initially answered Access Software.

If you had just answered 'Access' it would have worked but I have now added 'Access Software' as another alternative.

I had to include Microsoft as a lot of the newer users knew nothing about Access.

I'm pleased to say the solution also works well on an ASUS notebook with Intel iRIS graphics.
