.REC Players = no clubs

This pertains to just some of the Course Designer .rec rounds that I've downloaded along with the courses.

The recorded games play fine, simply .rec player isn't holding a club - my player/ani has clubs.

I assume it means I've haven't downloaded the .i3 clubs file necessary for the .rec player?

I've looked in the Course Manager / Recorded Players which offer information about round, but no mention of club choice/option

Add a copy of Clubs.l3 to your /PolyAni/ folder (you can find it in the /PoliAni/Clubs/ folder).
