Why do some of you designers out there lock your courses....????? Just curious.......

Not sure in today's world. But back during the pay course era, some of the designers were making their own textures and were more-or-less in competition with others to sell courses. They would lock them to keep others from using their textures and other creations. Also they didn't want anyone revising or changing their courses and then passing them around as if they created them. They were protecting their intellectual property, so to speak.

The simple truth is that a course is locked because the designer doe's not want
( To share anything on it ) If a course is locked I don't keep it

I locked a lot of my previous courses, not because I don't want to share with others, I always shared my work, it was only because when you spend hours, days, weeks and months to create something, your design is like a baby, and you don't want to see it wasted by another one.
My future works will not be locked, I only hope if an other guy modify it, he will ask me first.

I once submitted a course that was all laid out and playable
but with no plants on it, I left it open for any newcomer to get the hang
of things and do what they wanted with it. like change the layout or have
a go at putting plants on it. Practice makes perfect
I agree with you that the last thing that should be done is to steal the
layout of a course and call it there own. I remember one member was
found out for doing this and was banned from the site.
Its nice for any newcommer to be able to open a course and see how things
like seam blends and textures work together and how they are created
If I use anything from a course I give credit when its up loaded

It looks like I won't win a.popularity contest with this but I've locked courses in the past and will continue to do so and support a designers free will to release how they feel comfortable.

If a designer spends months or years creating something to give away for free they have the right to lock it if they choose or keep it open for others to grab textures or alter the course. As a player I don't care if a course is locked, it's not something I check.

While we don't have the vibrant community as we once had, courses are easier than ever to create if the user is patient, Lez's videos are a fantastic learning tool, there's plenty of great textures available albeit some needing a little or some fine tuning which there's plenty of videos and webpages for learning a photo program as well to help you along that path.

I want to say my whole point was to see why some top designers won't share their knowledge and techniques. Some designers pick up stuff real quick and develop ways of doing things that make life easier for themselves.

I guess I just don't understand why sharing is so difficult for some people.......I totally understand the months, years thing.......

Granted, this site and the game are old and probably dying out........
