I made a comment on the old site about Canada's best courses (not just the best known) being ignored. It looks like my comment was taken VERY seriously!

Perhaps I ought to do the same thing for UK courses

Haven't got the skills to do a lot of the 3D clubhouse stuff, but do like the grunt work of vert adding and seam blending.

Caddied there for 2 years (weekends and summers) in 1960/61. Looks like it is a very different course now (thanks to tree growth and Reece Jones:) ). Looking forward to playing the new Lambton. :)

Ha ha another ex-caddie! I was a looper at Mississauga Golf & C.C. for a couple of summers (74'-75'). It was home to the Canadian Open 6 times and I would love to see that in Links.

That's great news-Lambton is one of the 4 great courses all within a few miles of each other in Etobicoke (the west end of Toronto). There's St. George's (about which must has been written here recently! and Islington-sister courses designed by Stanley Thompson, Lambton designed by Rees Jones and at the north end of Islington Ave. there's Weston, designed by Willie Park, Jr. and best known as the place where Arnie cashed his first winner's cheque (the Canadian dollar was closer to par in those days! )

Lambton has hosted 4 Canadian Opens but not since 1941 (won by Sam Snead). I believe that with the Rees Jones redesign and now playing to 7,000 yards from the tips, who knows? The Rees Jones video shows the beauty and Black Creek wanders through almost every hole!

It has a very good clubhouse too! The video for the 9-hole Valley Course shows it nicely.
One more interesting point (check Golf Advisor's layout map)-if you're on the 6th tee at Lambton and turn right (west)-then hit a monster drive (avoiding the upscale houses) -then you should be able to take a long iron, then a medium iron (again avoiding the houses) and reach the 3rd green St. George's.

I caddied for a couple of summers at the Royal Montreal in '65-'66, and many of the big trees there now were just staked saplings back then (with a free drop if you hit too close to one). That was the first course I'd ever been on, and it was quite a shock when I eventually went to a local "munie".
