MEANWHILE UP HERE

Meanwhile up here there’s some news about Detroit-Rocket Mortgage is dropping its sponsorship after this year so the PGA is looking for a new sponsor and/or location.

This could be great news for the Canadian Open. Detroit is played at the end of July (after the majors have been put to bed) and RBC has done more than enough for the PGA (as in sponsoring two events) to ask for (demand) the Detroit spot. It won’t be a signature event because they like to hold a few spots for up-and-coming Canucks on the Korn Ferry but the main issue is the available date.

As for the Canadian Open-remember when it was going to be at Glen Abbey forever…then they added Hamilton…then St. Georges…then…well the Royal Canadian Golf Association seems to have found a new home…it started last year at TPC (yes, we have our own TPC) at Osprey Valley-the North Course (about an hour northwest of Toronto.

Here are a couple of links, including spectacular clubhouse view just in case…you know…

Anyway it certainly looks like our “National” Open won’t be moving around to places like Montreal or Vancouver (funny, the LPGA doesn’t seem to have that problem…)
