I just got the “Crucial Files Missing” error. I was attempting to install a sound script and must have screwed the pooch somewhere. I’m going to have to reinstall, but before I do, I’d like to know which backup files can go back “as is” without causing any trouble. My initial thought is that “Courses”, “Players”, “Players’ Pictures” and “Saved Shots”-they seem pretty benign and I have them all in their own files. I’m hoping that a “Fatal Error wouldn’t affect them. Is there any file(s) that maintain course and player stats? I’d like to be able to recover them too.

What will happen if I simply replace the newly-loaded files with the existing ones or do I have to do a File Transfer?

I have backed up Links already (about six months ago) and I’m sort of hoping that when a Fatal Error occurs the problem is in the Links directory and can enable an easier fix (and if that’s the case then I wouldn’t have to a complete reinstall).

I hope that what I’m saying spells out the problem but would gladly supply any missing information. I have a feeling (hell, I know) that more than one of you have been through this and a step-by-step guide would be more than welcome and would involve my heartfelt thanks!

Links files are somewhat scattered, some, for good reasons.

Assuming a standard installation there are files under Program Files, ProgramData and in folders under your own personal Documents directory.

I do not think you would have any issues restoring the files in the top level Links program folder. These are all static files, and this is where you also place soundscripts. You just copy them to this folder and then tell Links to use it. I have about 10 sound scripts I have put in my folder.

You should be able to just replace files in that folder.
