Playing down my memory lane

While waiting for comments on Kingsley Club and not knowing what I will do next, I decided to play a round at each of the real courses I have built, in the order they were released to Links Corner and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It also changed my opinion on some courses.

It was interesting to revisit the courses as I hadn't played them since their release date. I normally only play the course while I do the testing prior to Beta release and, as such, my attention is on finding faults not enjoying a round of golf. Peachtree, Mountaintop, The Golf Club at Black Rock and Gozzer Ranch were never favorites of mine, but today I loved playing them even though my score for Peachtree was a disaster.

I believe that the reason they were not favorites of mine, was that the building of these courses had it's own difficulties:
  • Peachtree cost so many hours with all the mappings associated with the making of the alternating rings around each green.
  • Mountaintop was the first time I had used the DEM/LIDAR download from Linkster and as such had a time consuming learning curve.
  • The Golf Club at Black Rock, the rocks and waterfalls took hours before I was willing to release the course, In addition it was my first attempt at making my own panorama, based on Google Earth screen shots. (Lining up the correct peaks with the correct holes took hours).
  • Gozzer Ranch, making the panorama and trying to get the lake to look a little like water took hours and I didn't manage it!
While playing the courses the first thing that became patently obvious was that my putting sucks, big time.

These are the courses I played:

(I only played the TPC Sugarloaf Select eighteen. I can't believe that The Golf Club at Black Rock is so low in the rankings? )
Even though the courses pre-2025 still have faults, I was able to ignore them and enjoy the golf. Perhaps my days of designing are past and I can spend my time playing all the wonderful courses in the course database? We shall see?

I want to thank all the members over the last 7 years who have kindly given their time to give feedback on the above courses.

I played Pasatiempo only a few days ago and really enjoyed it. 2021 courses are where I am up to at the moment.

What a great lineup of courses and all so well done. Thanks for your contributions to Links and hopefully more to come. It's hard to pick a favorite among so many often-unique courses to choose from.

I've said it many times but with our magnificent designers Links will always be the best game-even after almost a quarter century (get your heads around that one!) :scared:

...especially when you consider the "lack of simplicity" with APCD...arguably harder (if not pricier) than the jobs that thoae"other names" on your list have to do. All they need are bulldozers!😁😁😁

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your comments. It has been my pleasure, and frustration building the courses I have.

I forgot, :dunno:, to mention that when playing Kingsley Club, the score of -4 was almost entirely made up of this shot:

I believe this is my first albatross, here's to the next one. :cheers1:

I will spend more time playing Links and enjoying other courses, but I will also continue building in APCD, albeit at a slower pace.

I had my first and only hole in one in Links only in the last few weeks. I forgot to save it!!!!

Come to think of it, I have only had one hole in one in real golf too and now that golf course no longer exists.
