Just finished watching week 1 of TGL. I freaking loved it. The technology is off the charts and the courses are incredible. Can't wait to see what comes of this long term.

I havent seen more than an introduction video and a couple highlight clips, but it seems like a winning concept to me. I do like golf the way it is traditionally so in a way it is sad with all the modernization, but I think the sport is in for a very bleak future if nothing changes. Most people nowadays dont have time to spend 3-5 hours on 18-hole rounds whether it be playing or watching, not to mention having way too short attention spans. I dont really know what TGL is like yet but from what little I've seen it feels like they are trying to provide exactly that which has the best chance to bring in and keep new and younger audiences.
I also dont really know whether any PGA vs LIV rivalry remains nowadays, but it is rather ironic how PGA would have LIV to thank for any success with this. TGL never would have happened without LIV.
One thing Im really curious about for anyone who knows (a brief google search didnt give me anything useful) - how do those greens work? Is it real grass? A video mentioned they could alter their greenslopes from hole to hole with some tech - sounds amazing.

Watched it last night and loved it! Kinda reminds you of playing Links 2003 in a way. Hey Adelade: The greens are real grass, the areas around the greens have real rough textures, and the bunkers have real sand. Also, yes, they can change the slopes on the greens...in fact the green is a rotating
turntable that not only changes the slopes, but the angles and shape of the green as well! Really cool! Next broadcast: next Tuesday (Jan. 14), ESPN...7:00 CST

Hi guys,
Don’t really understand why they invest dozens of millions dollars to do this.. Tours are so spectacular, so A+ rated…I know Tiger and Rory know exactly what they do with their money though..For sure that’s for interesting the young generation much more excited by screens than by turf…or maybe am I an old crap out of the new vibes..
Btw I’m often in front of my screen cause I regularly play Links2003… so I should close my mouth and believe in the fact than real golf tours are not gonna die. That’s just evolution of the game in order to keep this game alive and attractive..
Or it’s strictly business
You, what do you think ?

Another thing that stands out is the "trash talking" amongst the players! Looks like they're all having fun...
and really enjoying themselves! Plus, 24 of the best players in the world! I think they said the crowd
capacity was 1200...and it looked pretty full last night! Didn't think I'd like it that much, but I was wrong!

"I still feel like the ball reacts very realistically on the green," McIlroy said. "We toyed around with the idea of using real grass and real turf on the green, but with the rotating green and then obviously with the jacks underneath and the ability to change slopes, we were afraid if we used real turf that that turf could crack and break. We made the decision to go with artificial [grass] for the green because we want to make it interesting."

I'm with Nicodaft. I love golf. I've played it IRL for over 50 years. I've been to Augusta National, Harbour Town and Pinehurst, spent thousands on memberships at private clubs along with even more money than that on golf equipment. Played in downpours, snow storms and wind storms. Met Arnold Palmer and Chi-Chi Rodriguez, watched Jack Nicklaus, Ben Crenshaw and Lanny Wadkins. Played Links 2003 for 30 years or so. I think I know golf. That TGI thing - that's not golf!
But if young people like it - that's fine.

Thanks for the updated info Kunk! I coulda swore I heard the announcers say it was real grass!
My bad...oh well, that's what advancing age does to a person!
