Pot bunker texture

Post by Ian Wells »

Gentlemen,
Is there anyone who has a texture of a pot bunker that I may possibly use on TPC Sugarloaf?
Thank you.

My advice is download a course if you don't already have one that has pot bunker texture used and use Links Extender V2 to extract it.

If there is one thing ................ummmmmmmm.......I can't remember.

Wow ! I can't be of any help here....but I'm just surprised to hear that TPC Sugarloaf actually HAS some pot bunkers ! Not what I'd expect on heavily wooded course in Georgia. Looking forward to it, Ian.

Sage,
Thanks for the reply
My advice is download a course ...
I don't play Links very often, only to test a course or if requested, so do you have a course that you have built where I may extract a pot bunker texture from?

Ron,
The course has been renovated using a new technology for the bunkers, see the article below:

East Coast Links by McCoist is one source of sodwall texture which is guaranteed allowed to use, as McCoist himself made the textures and McCoist is known for being positive towards sharing textures. I dont know whether the particular texture matches what you're looking for or not, but worth checking out.
Finished Courses - Main: Amedal (fictional), Nine Bridges (real)
Other: Austin, Sheshan, Kauri Cliffs, Le Golf Nat. Updates: Whirlpool, Royal Lytham, Royal St George's, Chicago, Chambers Bay, Munchen Nord E
Working on: 2 fictional courses + a couple things...

Adelade,
Thank you for your suggestion.
I downloaded the course and the texture is too uneven, the lines of sod in the bunkers for TPC Sugarloaf are more uniform.
Hopefully someone will suggest one that is nearer to what is believed to be Stewart Parkers texture. Here is my modification to that texture.

If a more even texture is what you want, I think you absolutely should go for that. However, if you're only doing it out of an obligation to try to make the course as authentic as possible, and struggle to find what you're looking for, I'd say you can safely settle with a more uneven one if you'd like to. Based on my experience with making Nine Bridges and seeing a bunch of images and videos from that course from various points in time, it seems like these sort of sodwalls tend to look like in your picture when they are first constructed, but soon end up looking more like McCoist's texture after only a short few years.

I agree with you totally, however, the bunkers at TPC Sugarloaf are specially made so that the normal deterioration doesn't occur. (Well that's the sales pitch. ) I did see one image of the bunkers where the grounds man was cleaning the wall with a HP water jet.
I will make a decision on the texture when I have completed the first 18 (Stable and Meadows), which should be in a week or two.
Thank you for your thoughts.

Sage,
I will download the texture tomorrow and look at modifying it, but it looks very good.
I will let you know how it goes.
Thank you very much.
