COURSE REDESIGNS

Just wondering-what things lead to historic courses decide to do a complete makeover (other than to make Sage's life a living hell?)
I'm a devotee of Stanley Thomson's historic designs-he designed Lambton-we have th e course in our course library-it's located a couple of blocks from St. George's in Toronto. The course that we have is as it is today-redesigned by Rees Jones. When I saw the result-an extension to the magic 7,000 yards my initial reaction was that they were going to try to get the Canadian (west Toronto) Open but that doesn't appear to be the case.
I'm an old fashioned fart but historic clubbs shouldn't be screwed with-especially if none of your members are PGA...
