I'm surprised that Sam Burns didn't break his 3 wood too!

Quick question-is the field for the BMW determined by a player's finish at the St. Judes or by the number of Fedex points they have after the St. Judes?
Same question about the Tour Championship-is it the top 30 fibishers in the actual BMW tournament or by the amount of Fedex points the player has.
For example if Scottie finished dead last in the tournament would he still advance because of his points?

The reason I'm asking is that Hidecki had to widraw and his total Fedex points can't "save" him for next week...at least that's how I read it.

And if it had been Scottie...

Top 70 in points qualified for the St. Jude's, top 50 advance to the BMW and qualify for all of the signature events next season, top 30 advance to the tour championship.

It's based on Fedex points, not position from the previous playoff event. Hidecki will probably retain his number 3 position for the Tour Championship, IF he can play in that event. If not, he will drop to number 30 but get all the future benefits of that position. He would not be replaced in the tournament.

Scheffler will probably retain his number 1 status no matter the result in the BMW unless Schauffele somehow manages to win it.

Now you might think the player at the top might have a significant advantage, but in fact, the top seed has only won the Tour Championship twice in the previous five editions of this format. Scheffler himself has yet to prevail when being sported a two-stroke lead the past two seasons.

Scheffler by this writing above has pretty much dominated the Tour each year over the past three years. Interesting that Keegan Bradley barely made top 50 to play BMW and by winning not only made top 30 in order to play Tour Championship, but got a good seed #4 making it more possible to win as he starts out 4 shots behind Scheffler for today's starting round.
