Next, run the nVidia patch. You don't need to have nVidia. It does more than just add a few things. I don't know enough about computers to make the judgement "No, I don't think I'll run it." How come you do? It solves problems you don't even know that you have. So, you want help? Run it!
Once you run it, we can eliminate it from consideration.

I know I will be labeled "special" or a "contrarian", but I've used nvidia cards for over 20 years and never messed with the video.txt file.
Sorry Dave. The guy was asking for help and I was busy trying to get him to do what I asked and along came your comment that didn't help. I reacted badly. I apologise.

While you must've deleted your reaction, apology accepted.
I 100% agree that the nvidia patch should be run! Gibby, myself, and several others helped test the patch for Mark. It was a fix for nvidia driver versions after an update. I would have to go back to the early days of the LSPN forum ( after v1.07 was released ) to find the exact issue.. It solved that problem and some that users from before the patch had found a work-around for. AMD users also reaped some benefits, although I don't remember why.

I completely deleted Links, uninstalled my nVidia driver (in safe mode using DDU) and then installed nvidia driver 536.40 - WHQL as suggested by Titus. I reinstalled the game, and after updating it to 1.07, I installed the nVidia patch. I have edited the Videocard.txt file as Pete suggested and it now contains the entry for my 1050ti video card. I see nothing wrong with my video card. It passes every test I can find, even stress tests, and does flight simming quite well, but I still have an annoying delay while Links renders even though I have 24GB RAM and hundreds of GBs free space on my C drive. I play with a guy who says he had the same problem (he has an nVidia 2060) and that the problem mysteriously went away as soon as he reinstalled Windows, something he had to do for a different reason. I don't look forward to doing that, but I have run SFC twice now, and it doesn't fix the issue. Maybe Santa will bring me a high powered pc for XMAS when the new 2024 Flight Sim comes out.

Have you tried tinkering with the Nvidia control panel settings? Have you tried entering task manager and putting LinksMMIII.exe to high priority?

FWIW, My 7 year old PC running Windows 10 has a GTX 1050 Ti using the driver version 536.23.
I installed Links from the download version and as far I can recall, have not installed any other patches.
On Shadowlands, a Mike Jones course redraws take about 2 seconds. Here are my graphic settings.

Pancho, could it be that you are playing Links so fast that the game can't keep up? Some players talk about it taking 15 minutes to play a game. It take my old brain longer to deal with everything, and rounds can be almost an hour long. If you do play fast, some of the newer, more graphics-demanding courses might take longer to refresh. How about timing your round, your individual screen refresh, along with the course name and where your graphics slider is positioned (far right, 2 clicks left of far right, etc.) so we can see how bad the problem is? Thanks!

Playing with two others, we typically slow-play nine holes in about 45 minutes. The embarrassing part is that everyone has to wait 15 to 30 seconds for my screen to render, not on every shot, but on a substantial number of them. I am playing the game 1280 x 720 32-bit with picture quality on the second dot from the left and using broken clouds. My nVidia driver is 536.40. I have changed to older and newer drivers without seeing any change in the rendering speed. I am amazed that this issue is not a common one for which someone has discovered a simple solution other than reinstalling Windows 10.
OMG! I think I found it! All I had to do was change the resolution to 1280 x 768 32-bit and it pops right up with no rendering delay at all! Now even a notoriously slow rendering course like Shinnecock Hills HD just pops up with no delay. Yay! Thanks for the help all.

I would've put all my chips on Driver. That's the best guess I've got. Sorry. Maybe someone else has an idea... Anyone?

That's great news, Pancho! Crazy old software! Sometimes it's the simplest thing. Now you can really enjoy the game! Come visit us at LSPN.net!

Dang, after a day of normal rendering, I wake the computer from its overnight sleep and it's slow rendering all over again! I have even deleted all the GL shader cache files in appdata/Local/nVidia, but no change. I guess I and those who play with me just have to resign ourselves to playing slowly.
