Another week, another disappointing first round, front nine started with a par, bogey from the sand at #2, bird at #4 and #5, another bogey from the sand at #8 to go out in 36, back nine started with bogey, birdie, bogey, birdie at #15, train slid off the tracks at #17 with a triple bogey from sand over the green into another sand trap then a heavy chip from deep rough missed bogey putt and settled for triple bogey, par at #18 after missing makeable birdie putt to come in in 39 shots for 36-39=75 3 over par start, 9 fairways, 11 greens, 28 putts. I will be late getting my round in tomorrow.

We all know how good we are at Links 2003. But how good are we at golf in real life? Do you have a handicap index? Mine is 4.1. Yesterday I shot my 2nd under par round of 2026.

I never got to that point IRL (best round was a 75 many, many years ago) so congrats Matty!

Back to Links, for my 2nd round I couldn't cope with the wind or green speed and was probably fortunate to shoot a 74. Hole out from the bunker for birdie on 1 and thought maybe something good could happen. NOPE!
https://youtu.be/lFSTJqt85uA (hole out on 1 and most of a par on 2)
https://youtu.be/wW6XyHNEK-I (par putt on 2 through most of the bogey at 16)
https://youtu.be/5OcgDdRGFmo (bogey putt on 16 and two pars to finish; missed opportunity on 18)

Really tough conditions.
I'm not sure there was much in the way of fairways, there was certainly rough and bunkers, I'm on first name terms with some of them.
4 over after 3 holes, so I thought one of those days, pack up now and go home and save the embarrassment. But I soldiered on.
It was an interesting day in terms of club selection, a bit of a lottery at times. Do you play with the wind or try and hold the ball against it.
No more bogies or worse for the rest of the round, it was a near thing at times, but there were 5 birdies so shot a 71.
I was amazed at the score under the circumstances.

Doug,
There was a good sprinkling of luck at the right times in the round.
