Just curious, is one of you designers out ther secretly working on an updated version of John Brooks' Aronimink Golf Club, that he released awhile back, in time for this year's PGA Championship ?? If not, that's a grand "old school" Donald Ross layout that would really be nice to see done in HD for Links. Just in case anyone's interested !!

I checked the lidar availability for Aronimink last winter and the 2024 data was not available yet. Last night I tried again and the raw point files are available. I converted the ground points to a DEM and it looks great.

I will have a playable DEM version of the course ready by the weekend. Nothing fancy, same as Doral last week, but a good visualization from the players perspective.

I played the current version and am watching the tournament now (more about that in another post).
Based on what I'm seeing, no amount of "fixing" those greens is going to make a difference!

Everything is fairway except the greens, prevailing wind direction is set, and a full set of pins. Note that there were new tees added to the course before the PGA Championship and the lidar captures the terrain shape but the 2022 google earth imagery does not.

It is nice to see a course with some contours on the greens. Seeing the pros miss putts makes me feel better.

Completed a quick round, it plays pretty well.

Not the easiest greens around but felt they were pretty fair and rewarded good play.

I did find myself in a bunker, it was a little disconcerting to have it presented as a chip shot.

I was particularly impressed with the Top Cam view.

These Dem courses look like they would make an excellent base for some final planting.

Would you class these as a 2003 Course, I would not think they are a 2003T course.

There are 42 hi res textures (6x7) that cover the course plot. Technically they would be a 2003T course because of the 1024 x 1024 textures but I understand that the quality is not what a finished course is. I should try to plant one but I am busy this summer working on Shinnecock Hills and Royal Birkdale.

Thanks for the reply, I mainly wanted to know so I could "file" the course in the appropriate directory tree.

I played the DEM at MC/FC and the greens seemed very reasonable to me: appropriately challenging without being ridiculous. It would be a very good addition to the Links library if fleshed out.
