Update blue monster at Doral?

Post by leftybob »

Any of our designers interested in updating TPC Blue Monster at Doral?
" latest " version which I could find
(Glenn Braden et al )has course at 7265.
this week's pga tour event
Shows course at 7739
And has supposedly been redesigned with New greens and bunkers.
Just wondering if anyone is willing to take on the challenge of the update?

No one has asked for the DEM so I would assume no. I can whip up something playable but it won't have the finished look that a completed course has.

I put together a playable DEM version of the Blue Monster. No planting but defined greens, set the prevailing wind direction, and a full set of tees and pins. It is not a full featured course but is a great visualization for the course at the player's perspective.

Let me know if there is interest for courses of this quality. They take a small fraction of the time to produce. I should try to plant one of these DEM courses someday and see if they are of adequate quality.

G'day Linkster.

I had a round on it, it is very playable, the greens are good and you can get a feel for the course. It i certainly more playable that some course I have tried.

I felt that it would need to have textures with a bit more definition for the tees and other grass areas.

I did find some playability issues, a bunker I ended up in played as fairway, and a miss hit into the water, damn sleeve caught on edge of the table, and I was still playing as if it was fairway, rather than needing to drop.

So I think it would need a little more to be truly usable. There is certainly scope for more basic courses, especially to fill in the gaps.
