Thought maybe I was handling the wind and could have a decent round going when I went out in -3. Then, four straight bogeys as I seemed to lose all contact with the golf course. A lone birdie on the way in let me save a little face with a 72. Bye-bye leaderboard...
Don't know how the rest will do, but I thought the choice of conditions was genius. Really.

The final round proved to be a struggle, I was hoping the weather would have made the greens a little more receptive but they still kept their Moderate challenging settings. That being said I felt my putting was solid, but I was putting for par more often than not, so was not getting into a position to capitalise.
The Wind while helpful on a couple of occasions was more a hindrance and I spent more time aiming for bunkers and the rough rather than the fairway and often still missing the short stuff. In hindsight perhaps should have tried some draws and fades to try and hold against the wind rather than play with it.
So again too many approach shots played too long with the greens not holding and the wind proving to be somewhat unpredictable, so a real scrambling round, out in a 1 over 37 but came home in a 2 under 34 for a 71 (-1).
So no real disasters but not giving myself any real opportunities, still I felt it was a reasonably solid, if unspectacular round, the Par 3 again proved to be a challenge for a shorter hitter, with a headwind on one I was playing driver, there is never a tailwind when you need one.

That round was not enjoyable in any way. It was hard work.
The conditions set were very difficult and proved too challenging for me. With the exception of the 4th hole where my tee shot ended 7 inches from the hole, it was a round to forget. You can now add windy to my dislikes to join breezy. Fair weather golfer? You bet.
More practice needed after my 39/39, 78.
Next stop Quail Hollow.

I'll echo the other golfer's comments, not much fun at all with round 4. Round started into the wind with a 3 putt bogey, made only par of the front nine on #2, birdies at #4 & #9, 4 straight bogies before double bogey from the lake left at #8 to go out in 41, back nine started with an almost eagle approach at #10 for a birdie to start the back, able to make more pars on the back nine, double bogey on #18 after hitting into the water short on my approach shot to come back in in 39 shots for 41-39=80, 8 over par, 10 over par for the tournament. Was an unusual round as I was aiming just right of bunkers on a few tee shots and on #13 hit full strength driver and came up 28 feet short of the flag. I did finally remember I could alter the ball flight lower after hitting a full power driver 242 yards on #12. See you all at Quail Hollow!

I put together a playable DEM version of the current Blue Monster course. Nothing special but a nice visualization of the course. Let me know what you think of courses done to this standard. They take only a fraction of time to produce compared to a full featured course.

Linkster, while not everyone's cup of tea, there are those of us who like to see the crowds and structures of tournament play, and even development adjacent to a course if the designer provides it. But the bigger issue is that the terrain does not reflect playability. The water is treated as solid ground, the bunkers don't play like bunkers, rough should be somewhat different from fairway, etc.linkster wrote: ↑May 4th, 2026, 12:41 am I put together a playable DEM version of the current Blue Monster course.
