Thanks for the response. Like I said it was a discussion point and I was interested in what is behind the suggested settings.
FWIW I have an old table from the days when 1.06 then 1.07 came out, you still see it on the LSPN site.
On it, it indicates a belief that fc/fc = 18
This is one source for it:

There was also a table that gave relative measurements between the stock and challenging settings, I think that table may have been lost on the old Links Corner forum, it was created during testing of the original mod (1.06).

dwg,
So it wasn't that I'm so rusty at Links that I couldn't break 80?!? LOL, I didn't watch a lot of the TV coverage but it looked like they were having trouble keeping balls on the green and in my own case I know I had a couple of water adventures that I compounded, being bull headed and trying the hero shot making my score go higher and higher. On the greens though I did struggle and I thought maybe the course wasn't compatible with the Challenging conditions as I would putt the ball 2 dots on the 25 putt meter and the ball would roll off the green. It still is fun to play the courses along with the pros and see the pins and remember the approach shot I hit to that spot on the green.

Ahh putting charts, being a RTS player since I got Links 2003 I have never looked at the charts.

Playing Links and the first conversation is>>>Green Speed and Firmness Stimpmeter settings
There are a few different ones but this seemed to do a real good job ;-))

Topic makes for interesting reading.
I found Adelade's findings interesting, looks like the original table overstates the values.

What you could do, is start with "slower" settings and gradually raise the settings over time as you get used to the speed. It is definitely an acquired skill and as it gets faster there is less room for error.
I have not worked out a way to stop getting wet on Bay Hill, seems I either get wet or end up so far over the green it is not funny. Of course I could also be getting a bit too greedy.
At then end of the day the main thing is to enjoy playing Links. You can choose to make it extreme at either edge.

Yeah I've been away from Links for a few years, playing PGA 2K21 on my Xbox but they shut down the server for it and so I can't play Career mode anymore, and then I saw what Southcitygolf posted about playing along with the pros, so I started playing Links again and have struggled (much like real golf) with the touch around and on the greens. I struggle with getting out of the sand and chipping around the greens, it just seemed more extreme this week at Bay Hill. Like anything else I've just got to put in the work and practice a little more.
