TW - Year 2000

Post by FOOOOORE! »

Good article here on Tiger Woods' 2000 season. Golf could use another boost right now, but I doubt we'll ever see that kind of thing happen again.

The shot they don't mention that sticks in my mind (probably wasn't in the year 2000), was Woods at Quail Hollow on the 11th hole. That's the only hole with a slight dogleg left, with bunkers on the left at the inside. He was playing with Ernie Els, and Els landed his drive in the fairway. Woods ended up in the bunker, the ball not far from the raised left edge of the bunker. I remember Els saying he thought Woods would just chip out sideways into the fairway and shoot for par. Woods had a blind shot, with tall trees between him and the green. He had to stand with his calves up against the raised edge of the bunker, and the ball was closer to his feet than he would have preferred. But no chip-out. I forget what club he used, but he hit it onto the green, about 8' above the hole, and then putted in for birdie.
