Microsoft Update 24H2
Re: Microsoft Update 24H2
Pete. Since Windows XP up to Windows 11, I have always checked to see if Links would work on that OS. Many still run XP or Windows 7 and some up to Windows 10. Windows 11 caused a few problems for some but they managed to get it working. This Windows 24H2 is something different and there will be a lot of disappointed people who like to keep their OS up to date as I do. I will keep testing it till I know Links works ok without any problems on this OS. I will at some time I hope be able to tell Linksters it work fine without any problems. Daniel
Re: Microsoft Update 24H2
Daniel - I realize that some people like to keep up to date with the latest version of Windows. That's fine - I don't care. The message that I want to get across is for other people - NOT YOU. My wife got notified that Windows was getting ready to install Windows 11. It wasn't obvious that she had any choice in the matter when in fact she did have a choice! Clicking around on the few pieces of text on the screen, I found one that brought up a choice to "Opt out of the Windows 11 Upgrade". It was only a temporary choice, but it was an option that WASN'T apparent. (There was also an option to permanently opt out of the upgrade.) I simply wanted to point out a choice which wasn't apparent! Not everyone wants to do the Upgrade now or maybe even ever - if there is a choice. Can we please let them know that there is a choice?

Re: Microsoft Update 24H2
Pete,
It is often a bit more complex. I used to have an old XP system I could play Links on sitting in a corner, it was largely gathering dust as it was a real nuisance to use. My goal was to completely retire those old systems. I know a couple of ladies that could really use those 2 systems for some old embroidery software they use for programming their machines. So my goal was to get Links working on my everyday machines.
Alas the two Windows 10 machines I had were becoming old and tired and Windows is getting increasing resource hungry, these are a Gen 3 and a Gen 7 system. Progressively I replaced those, and of course the new systems came with Windows 11. The old machines have been given a new lease of life with Linux. I did not want to dedicate a machine to Links and have it suffer the same fate as the old systems, I also do not want a standalone machine, and if a machine is on the net it should be kept up-to-date.
My trials with Links and Linux are recorded elsewhere and I am making some headway, but for convenience at least I need to use Windows 11. 24H2 has not come to me yet, but it will.
On the Linux side I can say that the wrapper does help.

Re: Microsoft Update 24H2
Pete I installed the 24H2 myself by downloading it, it was not in my updates so I can not look to see where you might stop the installation. I will have to wait till it is offered on this drive I am on that as 23H2. If I get the update for this drive I will certainly look into having to install it. I do not want it on this drive till Links works correctly. I appreciate your input Pete, yes people should have a choice whether to install it or not.

Re: Microsoft Update 24H2
More data points do help.
If people report they have Links working with 24H2 it is a pointer to any problems are more likely to be a local issue.

Re: Microsoft Update 24H2
Good to hear you are having no problems dwg. Did you get it through the updates or did you install it yourself. I installed it myself maybe the update makes Links work better. I will update it on this drive through the updates and see if I still get the problems I got by installing it myself. Thank you for your post much appreciated.Daniel
Re: Microsoft Update 24H2
Daniel
It was jorson2 that had no problems. I have put off 24H2 for a while and am currently working on getting Links running on Linux.
So at the moment I am just monitoring what people's experiences are with this Windows update.

Today's patch Tuesday seems to have cleared up my issue with an AMD Radeon dedicated card not being able to play fullscreen.
