Maidstone Golf Club

One more story from A Course Called America . This one involves Maidstone Golf Club , the author considers this part of the "sacred triad" of Shinnecock , National Golf Links , and Maidstone. "Willie Dunn and Seth Raynor had taken stabs at laying out Maidstone, but it wasn't until the...

Re: Wonderful Golf Courses

Agreed, there are some terrific golf courses made for Links. If you haven't played any of these, you must download them immediately:

* -Anything- by Mike Jones
* Whistling Straits HD (Robert Miller)
* Crooked Creek HD (Wayne Hewitt)

Re: Pasatiempo GC Beta

Played the Pasatiempo BETA for the first time today. The houses and roads off the course are a nice touch of detail (including in the overhead view). It gives a good sense of realism to the location. Are they photos of the actual houses you might see on the real course, or just stock house photos th...

Baltus Roll

While reading (a very good) book called A Course Called America , I came upon this story about where the name of Baltusrol Golf Club came from. After 40+ years of interest in golf (reading and playing), I'd never heard this story before, thought I'd share it here. "On February 22, 1831, two men...

Re: Best Par-3 course

This one never made it out of BETA, but would be a good candidate for your tournament play:
Chestonia Hills

The embedded sound files are kind of annoying though.

Re: Best Par-3 course

I would recommend Shadow's Run , it may or may not be the "best", but I sure like it. The first hole starts you out with a 250 yard shot, so your fairway wood requirement is met! Here is the full list on the Courses page: https://linkscorner.org/courses/index.php?SearchType=Par3 If you fin...

Re: Chicago GC (message to Sage Vanni)

My bad-Sage has done the "Regular" course-the one that has one Par 3 over the water and the other Par 3 over the marsh-or junk-or whatever. Since it's July 1-Canada Day-I'll do the appropriate Canadian thing and say I'm sorry. :naughty: And it's still a long trip from 18 back to the clubh...

Re: Links 2003 and Windows 11: is there cause for concern?

You can get Windows 11 as a BETA download if you are in the Insider Preview program.
Do NOT install this on anything but a virtual machine though! You've been warned. :)

Re: Rolling Contoured Courses of Unpredictability

:surrender: Sorry, I meant the "Define Hole Path" command which makes a shape that looks very much like some of the holes on those courses.

Re: Chicago GC (message to Sage Vanni)

My only other observation is about the actual club itself...it's a bit of a hike from the 18th green back to the clubhouse. Perhaps you are referring to the Black Forest at Wilderness Valley course which is south of Gaylord, MI. I've played that (Tom Doak) course a couple times, the last time I wal...
