Re: Links and Linux
Sage, I was running MX Linux on old laptops with limited hardware (c. 2006) and wasn't able to get Links running at all. I switched to Linux Mint after Windows 10 support ended (dual booting, but very rarely boot to Windows) and still had issues, although I'm no longer as patient as Des seems to be ...

Re: Unable to use 'play golf button'
I'm way late with this, so apologies if you have resolved the issue on your own or in another thread. Check your registry under New Game (I think, I'm running Linux, so I can't confirm where in the registry at the moment). It might give a clue as to the default player, sound, or sky file for normal ...

Re: Links and Linux
I apologize, I see now that you mentioned the issues were with the Intel/dgVoodoo setup - my bad!

Re: Links and Linux
I didn't 'install' WMP9 using Proton in Linux, per se, I just copied the DLLs from the Links 2003 installation folder in Windows to the installation folder in Linux. If I didn't have the Windows installation, there was a way to work around the crash, according to Grok ... I think it was to install W...

Re: Links and Linux
I couldn't get things running with wine - I didn't try the voodoo wrapper thing, but it seemed no what else I tried, it just crashed on startup under the wine prefix. I have almost ZERO knowledge of wine, so I'm sure it was user error in one or many places along that journey! While I could just rebo...

Re: Links and Linux
I have now dual booted my computer with Windows 10 Home and Linux Mint (Cinnamon). I gave Winboat a quick trial, not really knowing at all what I was doing and was trying to get another program running, not Links. Anyway, ended up wiping out Winboat even though I'm not sure I'm convinced if Wine is ...

Re: supendthread loop failed
I'm not too tech savvy lately; those days are mostly behind me, I think! However .... I have no idea what game you're running into that error with (a Steam game?), but posing that error message to Duck.ai - the default AI when you search in Firefox, I think - reveals the following (in case you haven...

I never met Art, but enjoyed his courses and even purchased his APCD tutorial, even though I never used it! Sad to hear of his passing.

Re: Links and Linux
Yeah, I've had a few minor software issues with MX - probably due to my history with Windows more than anything! When I was looking for a Linux distro to try, I thought I needed 32-bit (that was what every version of Windows that ever was installed on the laptop), and I wanted with with low overhead...

Re: Links and Linux
Des, I've followed your notes while trying to adapt them to my MX Linux 23.4 (bookworm) distro. Aside from a few minor differences, the procedure is the same. I had to install a GUI for Wine/Winetricks, since MX linux didn't have one be default. I chose zenity, since it was the first one suggested (...
