LINKS CORNER REVIEW

A very small portion of his readme:

"Palmyra is a fictional course located in the Bahamas. I designed the course to be fun to play and look and feel like you were playing a round of golf while on vacation. While not a push over it's not hard neither. Powerstroke and champ players should find the course fun to play."

This too is a first time effort by a new designer and I marvel at the level of sophistication of some of the courses that they are putting out, while a few struggle without asking help and release notoriously bad courses without asking help, some such as Russell post a beta asking for help and this course shows that he both received and used what came his way. At first this course looks like a fantasy course because of the deep coloring of the turf but you soon get used to it and realize that the hole shapes are more fiction than fantasy. The tee boxes, the checkerboard fairways with their first cut, the deeply colored rough and the lush greens with their first cut are a welcome change from the standard blends we usually see. Many of the early tee areas have very well done and beautiful flower gardens. The course is heavily planted with palm trees and with the boats on the water, the beach umbrellas on the sand you get that wonderful tropical feeling. His water hazards are sided with wood planking and the sounds of the oceans roar that I first noticed at hole # 6 mixed with the cry of the seagulls made it ever so pleasant to play. The bunker work was very nicely done and few if any APCD errors were evident to the non designing player, that's me.

The fairways were not as they seemed in the top views, which were very nice by the way. They were nice and wide, not huge but quite easy to hit if you didn't overswing and miss the snap. If you did try for the sky with your drives and missed you will wind up in one of the well placed bunkers that were conveniently placed there for your pleasure, with care in driving they are very avoidable. The greens were very nicely guarded and usually had narrow entrances and in some cases were slightly sloped at the front, if you hit a touch short don't expect to roll in, your going to either sit where you land or roll back a little. Many of the pins in the setting I used were quite close to the fringe and the greens themselves were sloped and had very gentle breaks. Not once did he go 'overboard' in the layout of the greens, in fact I might even call them easy. The varying elevations on a few of the holes demonstrated the accuracy of his settings both caddie and elevation. I almost forgot to tell you about all of the fountains in the water hazards, they made an attractive course look even better, very nicely done. If you tale a look on your right at the tee of hole # 18 the two gentlemen that are watching you get ready to drive are Tiger and his caddie Steve, stolen may I say from Sawgrass Stadium by Anders. An airship, or as it is known in the more civilized counties of the world a blimp, makes its début over hole # 4. As one who admires them since players 18, and a fine one that was, I was pleased to see one used in a course again.

It was pure pleasures to play this course; while the holes didn't show any outstanding imagination they made this course a nice place to visit. He did very nice work and made excellent choices in decorating and laying out this treat for the eyes as well as a treat to play. I can see where he can only improve as time goes on and we will be fortunate enough to have another fine, fine designer in out midst's. Should you download this course with all of its natural beauty and playability all crammed into a small download of only 22.8mb, definitely yes. You'll want to try it out especially if you are a fan of tropical ocean courses.

Reviewer Note:
I am a player not a designer and therefore rate a course as a player for other players.
