LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by
Chuck Clark
June 2002

Background: This is one of two golf courses released to Links Corner on May 24th by Mr. Reed. I have not played the other course (called 00 Dominator) and it has not been reviewed yet either. I don't really know what to expect, but I think I can guess given the tiny download size.

Overall Impression: This is a bare bones golf course, obviously built in a very short time frame. It has no frills at all; this is really basic golf. It is mostly flat, has very few trees (or any other planting), uses stock textures and shapes, and has no pano at all. You can tell pretty easily that you are playing on a square plot of land in cyberspace. It reminded me of that old PC game called Fuji Golf. I hate to say this but it is pretty boring.

Playability: Extremely playable, bordering on ridiculously easy.

Shot Values: I have nothing to say here at all.

Visuals: Very flat and mundane golf course. There is almost nothing to see on this course at all. The designer did throw in a few humps and hills here and there with an assortment of textures assigned to them (including: lava, sand, rock and mud). There were also lots of water hazards, which were coded as water, running water (although it was just a lake) and ocean (even though it was also just a lake).

Technique: Basic construction in every way.

Summary: I can't think of any reason for you to get and play this course, unless you really like flat, easy golf courses that are also very small downloads.

I am both a player and a designer. I review courses primarily from the standpoint of fun and playability. I appreciate courses that are beautiful to look at, but first and foremost I want a fun experience. I have spent many hours designing courses myself, so I understand the blood, sweat and tears that go into the design process. Any critical comments made here are meant to be constructive and helpful.
