LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Joe Turner `Loner' June 2002

A portion of his readme:

This is my first course with APCD. When I compare my course with others, I know there's mistakes. If you're playing from the ladies tees for instance, on hole 4 you'll need to move the tee to the far right to avoid the tall grass. I'm still learning how to correct them and any help and feedback will be appreciated.

I've attempted to get a custom flag and logo into the game but for some reason keep getting an error message of 'unable to load image'. Any help with correcting that would be appreciated. I've saved the flag as a 32 pixel X 32 pixel .tga image and have saved it with the alpha channel. I'm using photoshop 6.0, and I'm unsure of what it is I've done wrong. Pretty much the same story for the logo. It was saved as a 256 pixel X 256 pixel .tga file but still will not load into the game.

You read the readme, he tried to load the custom flag and couldn't, he knows there are errors but released the course anyway. I'm sure you noticed that there wasn't a cameo, all of this and more and he wouldn't post in the designer corner for help or have the course beta tested and get help there. It's easier to release the course to the membership with problems that could have been fixed. His color combination was very nice except there wasn't a first cut on the fairways or fringe at the greens. Many of the trees were duplicated but hidden in the heavy growth, the undergrowth was nicely done with deep grass and a tall reddish grass was around many of the numerous water hazards that dotted the entire course. Many of the tee areas were decorated with flowered growth and the green mountain pano wasn't exceptionally attractive but it was better that Whistler. Chipping from the rear of hole # 6 the scoreboard loomed above me and took up about ¼ of the screen, that a beta tester would have caught immediately.

The caddie and the elevations were very accurate but most of the fairways were unusually narrow and could only be hit if you made the snap. The greens were either easy or flat or had slight breaks to them; he showed more of his potential here. The holes were long on this 7777y course and usually the greens, which jumped from small to large, were very well guarded. The holes showed quite a bit of imagination and with some reworking of the fairways this course would have been very enjoyable. He worked the water hazards for all they were worth showing imagination but then just threw the course warts and all at us, if I may, to review and for us to play. I can't let his faults cloud my scoring of the course so.at 14.5mb if you can take narrow fairways and like a bit of challenge in the shape of holes to play then download this course. Yes it is playable.

Reviewer Note

I am a player not a designer and therefore rate a course as a player for other players.
