LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Joe Turner `Loner' May 2002

Good colors for the tee boxes, mowed fairway, rough, greens, fringe, (no first cut) the greens were checkerboard. As usual it's a course with row upon row of the same tree but at the tenth hole a miracle, another row of trees joined the first row. The 'undergrowth' was called forest but it looked like mulch and had a small amount of bushes, rather skimpy looking. There were sounds, water and a dog. I'm not too certain but I thought I heard a voice a few times; no I wasn't drinking at the time. The fairways were very narrow and the greens were not much over medium in size and fairly easy to putt. The few bunkers were in the right places on the fairways but were small and very ineffectual as were the ones that might be at the greens. He relied on narrow fairways as his challenge because the mostly long fairways showed no imagination.

The caddie and the elevations were done well, fade and draws such as used on the # 9 hole had to be used for this semi dogleg was more annoying than interesting, there was 1 small fairway bunker and 2 green bunkers that were all useless. His # 11 hole was 553 par 5, narrow fairway and 1 bunker at the green. The # 18 hole, for a big finish it was a 45 degree right angle with a crowd of 1 person with a golf cart, funny but not if you had to play 18 holes to see it. Since I'm not a designer I can't tell you what the red patches were sticking out of the tee box were but I know enough that they didn't belong there.

Hole # 7, par 5, 504y, this slow curving dogleg right had two bunkers, one for the fairway and one for the green. I drove 279y down the left side of the fairway in order to have a clear second shot. My second was 212y, an adjusted 2 iron, allowing for the slope, I landed closer than I thought I would and found that it can be an eagle hole. Watch out for the elevated green.

Hole # 15, par 5, 524y, four fairways and two bunkers, target golf. I drove 281y to the second fairway and had 241y left for a flop 3w to the pin. Close enough for an eagle again.

With all of the amazing courses we are getting lately and all of the designers more than willing to answer any questions you have, why doesn't this course have a cameo, splash, custom flag, anything to make it competitive. There are a host of members who are more than willing to help beta test a new course, why do we have a course such as this one. I don't understand or enjoy playing and reviewing a course that the designer cares less about than me. This is not a recommended download, yes it is playable and he has a sense of humor but I would rather play a round on something worthwhile not this.

Reviewer Note

I am a player not a designer and therefore rate a course as a player for other players.
