LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Beautiful color combinations for the tee areas, mowed fairways, roughs and first cut, greens and fringe. He used a deep brown scrub brush for the undergrowth on this woodland course. The tree combinations were very well mixed and the water hazards had a very heavy and attractive planting surrounding them. The sounds stood out, birds pecking and singing, frogs crocking and the water sound were so convincing I. well they were convincing. His holes had the rough winding in and out, which not only made them interesting but highly attractive sight in the top view. The one drawback, hole #2, the tee area had flagstone surrounding it and it not only wasn't it very good looking, but a groundskeepers nightmare. I was worried that this was the start of a trend but fortunately it was only for one hole.

A number of times the caddie gave me a club on the fairways that didn't seem appropriate, # 2 and # 4, but when I checked to see where I was standing on these undulating fairways the club was more than adequate. The elevations seemed to fit the clubs that were given to me so I have to say that they are very well done. The fairways were nice sized, medium and interesting. The greens were normal with a few, #6, small ones for an extra challenge. They were tiered or undulated but if you landed close to the cup, they, for the most part were flat. On a few the cup was on a slight slope and it too a bit of getting used to in order to figure out the correct angles to use to sink it. The bunkers and the creek were always there to grab you but if you exercise a modicum of caution you can escape their grasp.

#15 hole, par 4, 301y, with a 24ft drop, as tempting as it is don't try to reach this green with your drive, yes its possible but I was left with a 40ft putt not on a flat green. I found a 3w and a lw seemed to be the most logical choice. The green is a little too elevated to make it with the 'big drive', for the eagle. Try it in the practice mode, its fun.

Out of the 4 par 5's #' 1, # 12, and # 14 were eagle holes for me, and that's an accomplishment. Study them and you should easily be able to duplicate my unusual feat.

Above all don't let this course play you, you play this course. With its imaginative holes and greens that had more bunkers and curving patches of rough than I've seen in quite a while the course is a welcome change and challenge to many of the hit. hit. putt.putt courses that have been coming our way. Yes we have had quite a few excellent courses this month and this seems to be one of them. Don't miss it, at this size and amount of action you will get from it you will be happy that you chose to download it.

Description
Fictional, tropical course
Location
TBC
Conditions

Concept  7/10
convincing sub-tropical locale, completely surround by dense forest (although the trees rarely come into play), Crocodile Creeks serves up a realistic and most playable set of 18. With possibly the best undergrowth ever planted and textured on APCD 1.1, and cleverly designed and laid-out holes this is certainly worth a round or two. It all feels a little bit enclosed, though, and it would have been nice to see some rolling tropical landscape, similar to Cheetah Run or Te Ihi.
Appearance  9/10
The planting is very clever and given the massive amount of trees on the course is refreshingly clone-free. Textures are very aptly chosen; the browns and yellow colours really transmit what the course is all about. Bunkers are infrequent but handled with care and the subtle elevation changes are in marked contrast to other courses of this type. Generally very impressive, although the panorama-substitute tree surround doesn't quite convince.
Playability  4/10
The noise! The dreadful, loud, misguided awful noise! A water effect drowns out any commentary that you might have active, and the TV and the rest of your household into the bargain. I was forced to turn my speakers off, and it provided a real downer on my round. Even with the speakers off, the course was somewhat less than stimulating. A lack of hole options and the relative ease of playing round induces sleep rather than excitement.
Challenge  4/10
Massive, easy-to-hit greens, and hazards that rarely (if ever) come into play might look for a fetching course, but prove a bit of a pushover to the golfer. With the lack of elevation changes in play, it is too easy to hit greens in regulation and only some imaginative contouring helps keep the scores above 60.
Technical  7/10
While the time lavished on this course is undeniable, the designer really might have made more of the needs of the golfer. The flaws are all at the basic level: better hazard layout and more testing terrain would be considered a must. But the surface detail is sumptuous: both planting and textures are well up to the highest standards.
Overall A golf course built to impress the artist, Crocodile Creeks won't impress the golfer half as much. 31/50
