LINKS CORNER REVIEW |

Background: The read-me does not have much information so we move on to the course.
Overall Impression: This is a nice and pleasing to the eye parkland course. I did not recognize the pano, which is a good thing. It looked like Pennsylvania or some other location like that. It fit in well with the course and was an added bonus. This is a relatively flat course with many lakes and trees. The lakes cross the fairways a number of times so you have to watch how far you are driving it at all times. The fairways are pretty narrow, so you better be hitting it straight here. The textures used are very interesting and definitely not the standard ones (see below). The texture used for the bunkers was especially different looking. Many of the holes are very much the same; narrow fairway bordered by lakes, trees and shallow bunkers; fair sized greens with lots of sand and water and trees around them as well. I played with medium pins and many of them were tucked into the corners. I hate to think what the difficult pins were like. The greens were very nicely done though, no wild undulations or slopes. They were very subtle and fair.
Good Points: I really like the splash screen. Take a look at it; you will see what I mean. I also like the pano. Anything that is not one of the tired old stock ones is good for me. As mentioned above, I really liked the greens. They were a nice change from the sloping monsters we see frequently these days. I also liked the variety of trees used on this course.
Not So Good: There were no major technical errors on this course that I could find, except for a floating bridge or two. Most of the things I did not like consisted of personal preferences. I thought that the fairways were just too narrow. There was no planting between holes in places and the under planting was also non-existent at times. The bunker lips (see below) were not finished as well as some courses and the texture takes some getting used to. The holes were all pretty flat; I always like to see some use of elevations here and there. The holes also seemed a bit redundant after awhile. Many of the holes had very similar tactical ideas behind them. I also would have liked the pins to be a little farther away from the edges.
Summary: To summarize, this is a pretty good golf course. It is a very large download though, so read the review above carefully before deciding on getting it. If you don't like narrow fairways, then don't spend the time. If you have a slow connection you may not want it at all, I leave it up to you. For fast connection guys, I say it is worth at least a round of two, unless you play Champ. It would be a pretty long round for Champ guys unless they are hitting the snap perfectly every time.
I am both a player and a designer. I review courses primarily from the standpoint of fun and playability. I appreciate courses that are beautiful to look at, but first and foremost I want a fun experience. I have spent many hours designing courses myself, so I understand the blood, sweat and tears that go into the design process. Any critical comments made here are meant to be constructive and helpful.
