LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Joe Turner `Loner'

December 2001

This courses blend of color for the tee boxes, mowed fairways, rough and greens were very attractively combined with a well planted and decorated surrounding area. He used rock formations for a main theme but to the extent and shape that they were (8th hole) it seemed to be more of a fantasy course than a fictional course. The shapes of the holes had a great deal of imagination, but were not the type of holes that you would find on a conventional course. He had a stream running throughout the course that enhanced the beauty of this design.

The putting for the most part was very easy with a few exceptions that were easily overcome that contributed to a low putting round. The fairways were as I said before interesting in shape and somewhat a driver's paradise because of the drops in many. The elevation was excellent and at times the caddie seemed to be off but it proved to be perfect. The hazards were there but were ineffective.

3rd hole, par 5, 622y, 43ft drop, I stayed to the left side of the fairway to shorten my approach shot to on this slight left dogleg, 300y, with a 268y second shot. Using a 3w it went 253y across the trees and I was left with a 55ft chip to the pin, a definite birdie hole.

7th hole, par 4, 316y, 48.6ft elevation, don't go for the green. I moved my ball to the right of the tee box and hit a draw to it, I didn't expect to reach it but was in an excellent position for an approach. I had gone 270y and I had 42y to the flag on this 13.5ft elevated green. I allowed for the elevation with my lw, this green has a nice and playable slope.

9th hole, par 5, 600y, 40y drop, I cut across the edge of the trees on the right for 319y with only 238y to the flag. Using a fade 2 iron I was on the green with a 26.5 putt. I tried a draw 2 iron but kept hitting into the front bunker.

This fantasy course had very unusually shaped holes but all were playable with a modicum of planning. It was fun playing here, the long drives, easy putting, but if you are a fan of fictional courses and have dialup I would avoid it because of the size of the download. If you enjoy the unusual in hole shapes and a course because of it's size is attractive I'd say get it. It is one of the better fantasy courses that I've seen in a while. I enjoyed it because it was different and done well but for me it is not a keeper.

Reviewer Note

I am a player not a designer and therefore rate a course as a player for other players.
