LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Joe Turner (loner)

A good color combination for the tee boxes, mowed fairways, heavy rough, no first cut, and an interesting mowed type texture to the greens. The treatments of the water hazards were most impressive and the deep undergrowth with rock decoration made this more than just a pleasant course to look at, it was one of the more attractive courses as of late.

This was a very playable pleasant course but completely lacking any challenging holes and imagination. For the most part the holes were all straight and long, it gave me on of my lowest putting and highest driving averages that I've had in quite a while. Hazards seemed to be present on the course in the right places but not close enough to the 'action' to be a problem. It was a very playable but not exciting course even with the undulations in both the fairways and greens. The greens with the aforementioned undulations were a haven for birdie lovers. The 18th hole was very attractive and difficult looking, a fine requirement, but the difficulty level just wasn't there. The elevation meter and the caddie were excellent.

4th hole, par 3, 166y, with a 15ft drop, rethink the 6 iron and try a 7 iron it put me 4.6ft from the flag.

10th hole, par 4, 435y, with a fairway bunker that proved to be harmless at 274y my drive stopped at 278y. I then had a 151y approach to a green almost completely surrounded by water or bunkers, you would think this would and should be a problem but an adjusted 7 iron put me within feet of the pin. The hazards looked ominous but proved harmless.

12th hole, par 5, 547y, A long narrow gently curving to the right hole without a hazard on the fairway. If you drive to the left it will put you in perfect position for your approach. I landed at 290y with 252y yards to go, the curve seemed not to be a problem. It could be done in one of two ways, a cut just to the left of the trees on the right or a fade shot. I chose the tree shot and hit the green. Although the green has it's share of undulations there is an eagle possibility and a birdie is a given.

This course although beautiful to the eye it is not a course that will give you a challenge. It can be an enjoyable course because the look of it isn't boring but for excitement I would look elsewhere. It's a pity that he couldn't combine the two in this small download and give us what we're always looking for, hopefully he will next time. He is a good designer and hope that he will continue to build courses. If you want to download this for the beauty and just for a game of golf, do it. I wouldn't play it again.

Fictional, parkland course

Concept  3/10
There doesn't appear to be very much overall course concept at Belvedere. Individual holes show the prototype of good design, but the course as a hole is something of a mish-mash. Water makes an appearance, as do rockworks (somewhat poorly done), fairways are well lined but individually unremarkable. The overall concept is of a dozen and a half holes looking for a common feature.
Appearance  2/10
This is an early APCD course and starting to show its age. The fairways are rough, all objects and textures are from stock, and to be honest there isn't one remarkable feature all the way round. Eye candy it's not.
Playability  0/10
This is mindless golf. Most Links players would go round on autopilot, and there isn't enough variety to make you want to play the course again. I have to admit I baulked even at the idea of having to play just 18 holes as a Review test round. Sorry, but this is really, really dull golf.
Challenge  1/10
Part of the playability problem, of course, is the lack of challenge. I scored a 12-under round while eating a pizza, and was frankly not very impressed. The greens lack challenge, the fairways are too open and all the approach shots are easy. Most holes appear at first sight to be well-protected, but the bunkers are not precisely placed enough to present a challenge to anyone. I avoided the sand for 18 holes and, again, without particularly trying hard.
Technical  1/10
ery little to praise here also, I'm afraid. The whole course looks artificial and primitive by modern standards. Bunkers are cheaply extruded, textures are routine and the planting is sparse and unimaginative. Several unlikely folds in the fairway do little to add any credibility; frankly this could do with an awful lot of work.
Overall Not a keeper for most people. Mediocre through and through. 7/50
