LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Matt Lilly

View from the First: This appears to be a woodland course. The tee boxes have been extruded a great deal, probably about a foot off the ground. This appears to be too severe and in addition they are uneven and jagged. Trees of the same type have been planted in orderly rows. The water seems to be retained by concrete, and it looks too much like a swimming pool. The bunker near the green needs more verts turned as it is uneven as well and the player can see the APCD 'triangles.'

Hole 2: The extrusions for the tee boxes are distracting. The cart 'path' is made out of the dry brush texture. In addition, the path is centered only around the tee area and does not continue to the fairway or green.

Hole 3: The tee area is now about a foot below the rough.

Hole 5: This is a par three, but unfortunately there is no view of the green from the main cam as it has been obstructed by rows of trees.

Hole 6: There is big time tearing in the fairway, and the error is obvious in the top cam. It appears that bushes have been placed over the area to try and cover it.

Hole 8: Lip of the bunker on this par three is huge. Again, it is probably about a foot and a half.

Hole 10: The deep grass texture changes, and it looks like it might be blurred leaves. I couldn't really tell. Odd is the only way to describe it. This leads to an entirely flat green containing no break whatsoever.

Hole 14: One again, I encountered some tearing near the green.

Hole 17: The tee extrusions are now gone and they are finally even with the rest of the rough

Good Points: Geoff seems to have done a good job of getting the very basics of the APCD down.

What Needs Work: I would address the overdone extrusions, tearing in the fairway, the overall layout, and using more natural looking textures.

Favorite Hole: 18

Final Thoughts: I can understand the tremendous learning curve Geoff is faced with and give him credit for trying his hand at it. However, there are obvious errors that could have easily been addressed before the course was released. For next time a would recommend an more in depth beta test and to consult more experienced designers for advice (such as Designer's Corner). I was a good try for a first effort and I would encourage him to continue to try and refine his skills.
