LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Roger Worsham

Lost Woods Golf Club by Dave Everitt is a fantasy design set in the flat lands of Texas.

Course statistics: Par 72, and plays 7836 yards from the back tees, there are two others tees that bring the yardage down. The holes are not handicapped on the scorecard.

Goodies: Included with the course are the following; custom textures for the rough and fringe, a splash screen and nice natural custom sounds. Hole previews, crowds or tournament objects are not included with this course. The textures Dave used in the rough looked custom and added to the look of the course. The splash screen was good, and was sort of an abstract shot of some dense forest that have a look you could get lost in them very quickly. The custom sounds are very nice birds that are in the background and add to the feel of nature at this course. I found the sounds very pleasant to listen to.

My History: None, I didn't hear much a buzz before or after this course was released.

The Course: The course is for the most part very flat. There are well placed hazards, both bunkers, water hazards, and of course lots of trees. The one thing to note is at first this looks like a PS players dream. The fairways are very wide. However, with the length of the course at almost 8000 yards I think make this a big challenge. The greens are flat and they are also big. If you can get the ball close then a birdie is a very possibility. For a course that plays as long as this one does surprisingly the Par 5's are almost all reachable in two. Including the 12th hole. At first it appears that this hole is not reachable because of it is almost 700 yards in length. However, there is a small island if you rotate your golfer towards the actual pin. If you are brave you can aim for it, and thus make this long hole reachable in two! Be warned though there is a big bunker guarding the green if you go this way that will likely catch your second approach shot.

The Challenge: Well the challenge in this course is the length from the back tees. The course gets its length not so much from the Par 5's, but the long Par 4's and all but one Par 3's. The Par 4's average around 460, there is even one at 500 yards. Like I said the fairways are very wide, and you have to really miss the snap not to land in them. However, if you are a PS player who doesn't hit the ball very far, this course will pose a serious challenge from the back tees. The hazards were well placed provide a good challenge if you missed the fairways or greens.

The Hole: The signature hole here is number 12. I just liked this hole based on the reasons stated above about the risk/reward of going for the island fairway in order to reach the green in two.

Final Thoughts: This course was fun to play. Dave lists it as a fantasy course, but if felt, looked and played like it was a real course. The only design flaws I saw were in the top view. The way the lines look in the top view look very sharp, and not natural at all. At ground level you can't really see the sharp lines as much. The nice nature sounds of the birds Dave planted added to the playing enjoyment. File size is large at 47 megs. I would recommend this course for downloading and playing.
