LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Matt Lilly

View from the First: This appears to be a woodland course with the majority of the trees being pine and fir. The transition from the tee box to the deep rough (which is for the most part used instead of rough) appears to be a little abrupt and sharp. Water comes into play on the second shot, although I have to wonder what a water dispenser is doing in the middle of the lake propped up on a stump. I do like the choice of texture used on the fairway and the green features a good amount of break from all areas.

Hole 2: The rough around the tees has now been extruded, although that too seems too severe and high. The lips of the bunkers in this course are straight up and have no real curve top them. It is about up to the knee area, which for a lip is a lot.

Hole 6: I found some tears and rips in the fairway in certain spots. However, the area around the green comes across as being very clean and well done.

Hole 7: A tough second shot is in store here. You are left with about 190 yd. (which plays longer) to a very small island green. It is very easy to land the shot and have it roll off the other side. This is a good risk-reward opportunity.

Hole 8: A very nice par three. The layout is very natural as is the planting. The bunker is smoother now, although the lip is still very high.

Hole 12: Another island green is the story on this par three. The planting of the trees is somewhat repetitive, although the water plantings and rock work around the green are nicely accomplished.

Hole 16: If you really have the wind howling behind you, a go for the green in one may be possible. However, the carry is completely over water and it would be wiser to simply take a strong 3-wood and lay-up here.

Hole 18: My best guess is that the fairway bunkers on this hole are around 6' deep with a straight drop down. Making this hole even more difficult is a bunker located directly in the center of the putting surface.

Good Points: The layout was very natural and most water and brick work was done well. The course had a very lush feel to it.

What Needs Work: I would definitely address the problems with the bunkers as well as fixing those tears and stretches in the fairway. Some are more obvious than others, but they do stand out.

Favorite Hole: Hole 8

Final Thoughts: This was a very good first effort from Graham and I am sure that as his experience matures, so will his final products. Many first designs are not even playable and I give him a great amount of credit. The download size is also fairly small, which is a plus. I encourage Graham to continue designing and to beta test extensively to work out all of those little errors.
