LINKS CORNER REVIEW

Reviewed by Joe Turner `Loner'

July 2001

5th hole, par 3, 194y, a short 4 iron seems to be the winning combination on this hole.

6th hole, par4, 440y, on your second shot be careful not to fall short of the green, it is both elevated and undulating.

10th hole, par 5, 605y, the top view may look confusing but the hole is well laid out. On this 'S' shaped hole, the fairway bunkers can come into play at your initial landing. I would suggest you layup to green which is not safely reachable in two. This green is not only well guarded by bunkers but is surrounded by water on three sides. A birdie is still a distinct possibility.

The rock treatment around the green is very attractive. The only turnoff here is the use of rows of the same trees to the right of the tee. This is not the only time he does this on the course.

14th hole, par 5, 599y, your best bet here is to lay-up with your second shot. Don't get too close to the green, it has quite a slope to it. My measure of the green is 42y long. If you hit it short on the green you have a huge putt and chipping is not allowed on the greens: 'loners law'.

18th hole, par 4, 459y, really nice finishing hole. The fairway doesn't look very well guarded at the first landing or at the green, but looks can be deceiving. If you land to the left of the flag use replay, you have three visitors watching you. 'nuff said.

The elevations and the caddie seem very good. I would say that the putting tends more toward easy than moderate.

His blend of green is well done for the fairways, roughs, tees, and greens. The use of color is a refreshing sight in this sea of green. His idea of plants floating on the water adds to the friendly atmosphere of this course.

His use of benches at most of the tees makes the course a little more friendly than most and they seem to be large enough for anyone to use.

The fairways are like the three bears; not to large and not to small, just right.

He has used his bunkers wisely on both the fairways and the greens. Generally they can be easily avoided, but you are welcome to use them if you wish.

This is his first attempt at creating a course and he has done an admirable job. Better than many we have seen but not perfect of course. He has imagination and talent and I believe we will be seeing some excellent courses from him in the future.
