This fictional parkland/canyon course follows on from the critically acclaimed Fire-fighter memorial as well as some other well-received courses from Steve so I was looking forward to reviewing this course.
To me a great opening hole is important as it gives a player a taste of what to expect, hopefully. This course does not let you down, the first hole is a joy to look at, the tees are wonderfully well detailed and finished off and the fairway stretching out before you is undulating, full of bunkers that you can see from distance have good depth and all in scale. The hole continues this quality throughout and this carries on to the eighteenth hole.
The custom textures work well, the course layout is excellent and all holes are individual and never samey. Planting is understated and well done, the bunkers look excellent with good texture in the orange sand and have excellent depth and variation, water is also well done but doesn't feature too much as a hazard on this course.
The greens are on the small size and need good skills to putt for birdie or par, there is also a good mix of distances in the hole lengths giving plenty of risk/reward shots.
Best Hole: I have to say that I am still most impressed with the first, it looks so good off the tee and then the green and it's surrounding bunkers looks even better when you are about to take your second, you can also see how well the planting has been done.
Overall: I really liked the course and it is up there with the best ones available, I think there are some out there that are slightly better in overall finish but the skills of the designers are improving all the time and I am sure Steve's next project will be even better than this which is obviously a good thing.
