COURSE NOTES |
The Old Course was designed by Willie Park Jr., twice winner of the Open, and opened in 1901. It has stood the test of time and regularly features in the World's top 30, and has hosted numerous events. It is probably the greatest British inland course. Its acknowledged finest round, 66 (33 shots and 33 putts, all 4's and 3's), was played by Bobby Jones in qualifying for the 1926 Open, using (by modern standards) pretty basic equipment. In fact, on 10 holes, Jones used either a 2-iron or wood for his approach. |
