COURSE NOTES
The only outback, sheep ranch, Australian course available on Links.

CLIPNOTES by Ben Bateson (ousgg)

Description
Fictional, farmland course
Location
Australia
Conditions
Some unchecked pins should restrict you to M*/S*
Concept  8/10
Certainly the only golf course you\'ll ever see set on an Australian sheep ranch, Heritage is quirky, fun and makes a big thing of both its (fictional) history and geography. The holes wind their way between assorted sheep paddocks and run-down farm buildings, and the clean remake is more convincing than the original, seemingly bringing more space and cleanliness to the plot.
Appearance  8/10
I love the stony textures, although I\'m not convinced that the granite undercolours match the red clay environment! The panorama is spot-on, though, and it\'s impossible to ignore the charm of the assorted run-down shacks, some striking rockworks, and - of course - the sheep. The only real weak aspects are the occasional blurry mid-range texture and some rather unreconstructed bunkers.
Playability  7/10
There is much to please the eye, but a notable omission is the ambient sound which, given the location, could add so much. Otherwise, there are plenty of reasons to play this revitalised course: some grip-and-rip holes combined with subtle twisty-turny ones, and the genuine conveyance of something a bit different.
Challenge  2/10
Be warned that a couple of pins still remain in distinctly unfair territory. On the flipside, there are also a whole host of eagle opportunities with short Par 4s and unthreatening Par 5s. And it\'s not actually that practical to drop shots. An engaging course, for sure, but not a potential tournament host, I would suggest.
Technical  7/10
The original Heritage was very rough and ready, and it\'s pleasing to have Matt\'s refined style applied and distinctly improving a course that deserved to be remembered. There are a couple of notable omissions in the remake: the pins, the ambient sound and the texture colours, but the course is technically a far leap ahead of where it used to be.
Overall A quirky delight with a competent overhaul that has helped realise the original designer\'s vision. 32/50
