Note: THIS IS A NEW BETA VERSION with fixes to the Original Beta as suggested by the LC Players.
Course Notes: This is my first attempt at course designing using the APCD, so please excuse me when you find any issues with the course. I made some of my own textures and some 2D objects. The course is 7625 yards long from the back tees (par 72), in a parkland setting.
I have previously designed 38 courses for the TW2008 game, which are available at the CourseDownloads website. I have to say that in my opinion the APCD is a much tougher software to learn.
I thank the following people for their time and effort in designing and releasing useful tutorials, courses and textures.
DAN (sorry cannot find a last name): for his amazing grass tgas.
LEZ MARWICK: for his extremely useful and informative video tutorials, which finally made it possible for me to understand the basics of the APCD.
JOHN AHERNE: for his bunker lip video tutorial.
PAUL SEAMAN and STEWART PARKER: for the Dullatur Antonine course (open .crz).
McCoist: For the excellent green and fringe textures.
All other designers, members and admins: who continue to make this site work so well. Many thanks for leaving comments on the course, I found them extremely useful.
Have fun playing the course. I have left the .crz file open, so anyone is welcome to use any of my textures and 2d objects.

CLIPNOTES by Ben Bateson (ousgg) |
Description Fictional, parkland course |
Location Overtly an English course - if I was pushed, I\'d say somewhere in the south-west. |
Conditions Anything faster than M*/S* might foul up one or two greens. |
Concept 5/10 Set in what is pretty much a rural England on some serious steroids, Abbotsbury is long and scattered with assorted inns, churches, castles and other such ephemera. The course, although fun, doesn\'t really make any sense in context and relies too heavily on elevations that really don\'t have any business being there - the slopes are not far off a mountain or canyon course at some points. A lot of holes feature tight, dog-legged fairways, to the point of excess. |
Appearance 7/10 All the bases are pretty well covered: there is a good array of planting at all levels, and the assorted 2D buildings are welcome eye candy. Some of the texture transitions are OK, but others are a bit jarring. A lot of the plot suffers from tiling or low-res textures, and some of the buildings don\'t stand up well from different angles. |
Playability 8/10 Although there is a distinct amount of lag on the sound and rendering, it is a minor drawback. A lot of the course length is buried in doglegs, and a grip-it-and-rip-it style doesn\'t really come across much trouble. It\'s a great course to attack and try lavish approaches and escape shots. |
Challenge 7/10 Again, despite even the Ladies tees being 7000+ yards, Abbotsbury doesn\'t really play as such: the Par 5s especially can yield up plenty of birdies, and most greens are moderately paced (although one or two nasty ones do intemperately crop up). Birdies aren\'t exactly easy, but some common-sense approaches to the fairway elbows will undoubtedly reap dividends. |
Technical 6/10 No-one can accuse Jimbo of not being a diligent APCD student, and much of what has been presented at Abbotsbury, particularly the planting, is very good. However, the plot and course-management need a little fine-tuning, and the reliance on 2D planting has given the course a slightly unworldy feel. |
Overall |
A big, crazy and fun British course. In fact, almost a parody of a British course. |
