COURSE NOTES
This is my first official release for Links 2003. This course has been on my hard drive for 11 years! I am releasing it because I no longer wish to work on it. I have left the file unlocked for anyone who feels they can improve on it to do so.

The course plays 7,157 yards from the tips to a par of 72 and is designed to be fairly realistic, strategic, and with an emphasis on classic risk-reward philosophy. The look and feel of the course is heavily influenced by Muirfield Village, and by
classic parkland style layouts like Colonial, Westchester, Quail Hollow, and others.

Description
Fictional, parkland course
Location
Based on the course’s influences, I would place it in the north Central states – Illinois or Indiana maybe?
Conditions
I wouldn't go beyond M*/M*
Concept  6/10
Many years in the production, The Reservoir has finally emerged from gestation as an intelligently-thought and lightly-bunkered course, and the hole design is tidily crafted around natural elevations and a few streams, although at times, 'a few' becomes 'a few too many'. Without an array of course objects, some holes - particularly on the back half - tend to wander into isolation, rather than being part of a coherent whole.
Appearance  6/10
Some lovely work is apparent, particularly around the water features, and the depth of texture use and bunker lips hasn't gone unnoticed. However, the central textures feel a bit bright and artificial, and there are quite a few clones apparent in what is toodeterminedly random planting. I wanted to like it more than I did, but the attention to detail was unevenly distributed.
Playability  6/10
There's no denying the thought and golfing values in this layout, and the designer has shown excellent restraint not to push things further than he has. However, the lingering memory of the course is of a lot of forced water carries and tidying up from awkward greensides rather than the clever hole design.
Challenge  7/10
You'd do well to clear all the water here. Quite a few holes are built around it, some quite cynically so, and there are an interesting range of elevations to deal with as well, both on fairway and green - the latter won't quite meet everyone's demanding specifications, although to nothing is very extreme. The Reservoir isn't an overly hard course by any means, but you'll have to work hard for pars.
Technical  7/10
The design process has been thorough with The Reservoir, and it's certainly a solid creation which plays well. It's a shame that there are still faults in the planting and a lack of atmosphere, and really a lack of stand-out signature moments in either visuals or hole design.
Overall Perhaps a little bit too much water, but this is a very worthwhile creation with occasional stand-out moments. 32/50
