Description Fictional, forest course |
Location New York state |
Conditions A couple of greens will tolerate no more than M*/M* |
Concept 8/10 Started by one designer and finished by another, Sinsanianeck takes obvious influences from the likes of Bethpage and Oakmont. It plays a lot longer than the stroke card, thanks to extensive use of dog-legs and some really fancy terraced green complexes. The bunkering contributes too: subtle at first, building up to a real sandy terror near the end. The feeling of location is somewhat lost among the swathes of trees that crowd the panorama and the plot. |
Appearance 8/10 Delightful green textures, well blended, build a plot that is soft and gentle enough to go almost unnoticed. Indeed, there\'s little that really leaps out and catches the eye, for good reasons or for bad. The occasional cloned tree catches the eye purely because the rest of the course is sufficiently sweet visual background as to focus your attention on the game. It\'s a compliment of sorts. |
Playability 7/10 It\'s all about the bunkering for me. What starts off as some clever trap placement along the first nine soon becomes penal and restricting, and shot placement suffers as a result. You can\'t deny there are some interesting greenside situations, though, and you\'ll need a full range of chip shots to hold the short stuff. |
Challenge 8/10 For the large part, Green In Regulation is no easy number, and finishing a couple over par wouldn\'t be considered a harsh run of the course. Most holes are fairy Route 1, so a lot will depend on your recovery game and ability to work approach shots. In fairness, the water is used with pleasing restraint, only coming into play on one hole, so there\'s little that would be considered unnecessarily penal. |
Technical 8/10 Sinsanianeck is a pleasant and seamless piece of work which doesn\'t betray either designer as having given short shrift. Technically still in a Beta release, it would be nice to see the course better \'landmarked\', perhaps with some 3D work or a trademark hole. |
Overall |
Pleasant, perhaps a little undistinguished. Worth having a look at the imaginative use of elevation. |
